I do not think we should have a death penalty. I don't think it is any kind of deterrent. I think it's barbaric. I think it makes us all worse people. All of us. And we just don't have to do this to ourselves. We could abolish it, and we should.

The image is of a four panel comic.
The first panel shows Sarah, the protagonist, holding a red ball labeled "A SILLY MEME".
The second panel shows Sarah taking the ball and going through a door labeled "GROUP CHAT".
The third panel shows a group of women sitting together and consoling one woman in the center. The woman in the center is saying "...And that's how it happened. It's been the worst day of my life."
The fourth panel shows Sarah standing in the doorway behind them awkwardly holding the red ball.

People never actually mean it when they say oh sorry I was being a well actually dillhole who leaps to daft conclusions about total strangers and the argument they’re making. The very fact that they think of well actually-ing makes them incapable of seeing what they did wrong.

Genuinely thought Burnham would simply reveal he’s a careerist and didn’t mean a thing he said once he became PM. But I don’t mind admitting I felt an actual emotion over that speech and am astonished to find he is so far doing what I’ve always wanted Labour to do.

That Cornell case is showing yet again that a metric ton of men believe someone saying stop just means pause for a bit, then simply do the same thing again that you were told not to. As if a no is reset somehow after a few moments go by. You’re not a rapist then on a technicality you made up.

Went to see Sense and Sensibility. It was…fine. A little perfunctory I thought and I really don’t know what the thinking was behind having Marianne constantly look like she’s just finished a seventeen hour shift in the washer room.

I wonder what it would be like to write the same column, over and over again, endlessly. Seems like it’d be boring. But maybe it brings one comfort, like having your parents read you the same story every night before you go to bed.

I feel that article writer is more ”unable to cope with the fact that their experience is not remotely universal and so is trying to pass the blame to evil left wingers who hate the working classes” than ”making a good reasonable point that makes sense”.

The only thing I would say about people who didn’t believe someone was an abuser at first and thought more evidence needed, especially if the someone was beloved, is that they often get plenty of grace, but I‘m not sure they extend that same grace to people they mocked at the time for believing it.

And Friends was genuinely everywhere and has had decades to spread and is on things where everywhere is possible. This song simply hasn’t done nearly enough of that. It’s very very obvious how people haven’t heard it, and it gets more obvious when you get responses from people defensive about it.

Irritates me no end when people act like Kylo/Rey was made canon, same as it annoys me no end when they act like Luke was made a villain. The only way to believe those two things is if you listen more to fandoms than the films and ignore everything that happens in them aside from two second events.

I mean it’s not hard to figure why even Swift fans are heavily criticising her new music. Heartbreak and love stories are relatable. Being a billionaire who constantly “claps back” at “haters“ isn’t.

It’s prob not a coincidence that 2019/2020 is pretty much when people started to decide en masse that “Woke” criticism of fandom stuff they liked was the great evil of our time.

There is nothing in the sequel trilogy that “reduces” Rey to a love interest of Kylo Ren. Not one thing. If that were true, he wouldn’t be dead as a doornail at the end, for starters. So if you’re annoyed by this idea, it’s not really the movies you’re annoyed at.

I’ve never felt that Lost was a bad show because it had a bad final episode. I felt that Lost was a bad show because it became all about an increasingly convoluted bizarre pseudo-scifi mystery instead of what made its first season so fucking good.

I'm happy to see Netflix announce a November 5 premiere date for the second season of "Black Doves," a smartly written, wonderfully acted assassination thriller, but this is 100% yet another show that won't be able to recover the momentum after an endless, needless gap between seasons.
