23 years ago we wrote a paper on PCBs in British Kestrels & Sparrowhawks. Merseyside really stood out as a hotspot of PCB contamination in local raptors. Also the Wash and Clyde. We suspected it was related to PCBs in soils/estuary sediments getting into prey. 1/2 www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

In 2021, income tax personal allowance was frozen at £12,570. If aligned with inflation, it would now be £16,070. A minimum wage earner in England will pay extra £980 in income tax & NIC in 2026-27. Govt can easily increase personal allowance by £3,000, worth £600 to basic rate taxpayer.

Water bill for last six months: Total usage charges - £32.30 Total service charges - £87.00 Almost 2.7:1 service charge to usage. If I use absolutely NO water, I could only reduced my bill by about 30%. There is very little incentive for me to reduce usage further.

In my younger years, I remember so many buildings, many in London, being cleaned of soot - mainly from burning coal. Promises of never again will they be blackened. However, oil - largely as diesel - spewed out incredible quantities of soot and other particulates. ++
