Burnham punted on Brexit. He had the opportunity to say something substantive while the Labour conference spotlight was on him, but instead he shoved the issue off into a nebulous future the other side of the UK/EU summit. Poor. Very poor.

The personal allowance limit should rise at least in line with the basic state pension, but for everyone rather than just for pensioners. That way, young people won't get the sense that they're being asked to shoulder the burden of an ever more expensive older generation with nothing for them.

Jev AI was launched on 15 September. There are already several books about it on Amazon. Any good? No idea. That's not the point, though it would be nice if they were. But it shows that self publishing opportunities abound for the swift and the proactive.

The Chancellor is set to promise a "new age of industrialisation" in a speech later today. I'm not sure that "industrialisation" is something that many people favour in this day and age. Certainly doesn't feel like a net vote winner.

Air gaps and sandboxes are not the same thing. A sandbox is a restrictive environment set up around an AI with the specific intent of boxing it in. An air gap is disconnecting the machine containing the AI from every single network. AI breakouts involve flawed sandboxes, not air gaps.

If you're not following the latest AI developments, both OpenAI and Anthropic released new models in the last 24H that are much cheaper and better than their existing ones. Anthropic's Opus 5.5 in particular is a dream when it comes to programming graphical scenes from scratch. Absolutely amazing.

It would be healthy for UK politics to put strict limits on political donations. It would also be good to break the ties between Labour and the unions. If union members want to support Labour, make it very easy... but not automatic like it is now. Level playing field all round.
