I welcome any change to the triple lock but I think Burnham has got it the wrong way round. I have no problem with pensions rising in line with wages as its wages and workers that pay for it. What I have a problem with is pensions rising in line with inflation when wages do not

As many on here have been saying for a while, the government's approach to immigration is not only morally wrong and politically insane, it is also economically disastrous. That's quite the triple whammy!

The Times - which has v much joined in the rightwing clamour to reduce immigration - now reporting that Mahmood’s “success” has cost the economy £4- to £7Bn. Would they like to now honestly confirm that fewer people = less spending power for all. There’s a high price to pay for this nasty obsession.
Patrick Maguire
Chief Political Commentator Oliver Wright Policy Editor

Falling migration numbers could cost the chancellor as much as £7bn in fiscal headroom as he writes his first budget, The Times has been told.
Government insiders believe that John Healey, who already faced an uphill battle to balance the books next month, is likely to have an even bigger challenge after immigration undershot projections from the Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR).
The Institute for Fiscal Studies think tank estimated last month that the success of Shabana
Mahmood's
reforms, which have cut net migration to the low hundreds of thousands, could cost Healey some £4bn.

@jdportes.bsky.social and others have been highlighting this for months: falling migration *already* is blowing holes in the budget and Mahmood's reforms would create further issues. Good to see this finally being highlighted in the mainstream press.

Quite. If you believe in something, why not do it and challenge the opposition to abolish it? In my all too many years of experience, a vast number of policies, from the ULEZ to the smoking ban to minimum wage were described as ruinous. Yet nobody has ever abolished them.

I do find this country mad. Anyone can see that social care is in a state of devastating crisis in this country and that it is the key source of the NHS crisis as well. There is no feasible way to solve it without everyone contributing. Burnham is honest about that and is already getting pelters.

I really hate the framing of these stories as "an AI agent broke out and hacked something." No, an inadequate sandbox meant that a powerful and unpredictable computer program was set loose on the open internet by the company that designed it. The agency isn't with the "AI agent", it's with the firm
