you literally cannot have anything in this city without drivers finding a way to ruin it

A pedestrian street can have 98% approval and it still might revert back to cars. But a car street can fail miserably on numerous measures and it will remain as is.

Planners will shove density on busy roads known as “corridor zoning” suggesting the busy road is an asset for residents. But ask anyone selling real estate and they’ll tell you “you don’t want to live on a busy road”.

I recently replaced my grandparents' 2nd generation Nest thermostat because Google dropped support sometime last year and I've learned they are *very* hackable. if you want a Linux box with a display, dial, Wi-Fi, and an array of sensors (temp/hum, proximity, motion) for REALLY cheap, check eBay

This is a definition you might find buried in the footnotes of a Vision Zero report prepared by @seattledot.bsky.social but it's important to know the seriousness of the harm caused by our transportation system, and how urgently we need to fix it.

When we talk about serious injuries in the context of Vision Zero, we mean "crashes resulting in severe organ laceration, significant loss of blood, broken or distorted extremities, crush injuries, significant burns, unconsciousness, paralysis, or significant skull, chest, or abdominal injuries."

I love using @transit.app's GO Live Activity to keep tabs on when I should leave, but I always wished it was more glanceable while my phone is on the charger and I'm scrambling to get ready. The solution: make it mirror to my Transit Tracker!
Photo of a horizontal LED matrix display mounted on a wall, displaying Transit App's logo and the text "Go in 4 minutes, B in 13 minutes". Below is a superimposed screenshot of an iOS Live Activity displaying the same information.

"If the train was open I wouldn't be sitting in stop and go traffic right now" (Pic from yesterday)
real life photograph of slow moving traffic on an interstate freeway taken from inside a public transit bus. An elevated guideway for light rail trains is above the roadway on a flyover bridge, the electrified overhead wires are visible.

I like that London names their transit lines. It gives them personality. Numbers, letters, and colors are kind of sterile. Anyway, next year, I'm looking forward to riding the Balducci Line all the way from Seattle.

Dismantling the legal and regulatory frameworks that hollowed out cities, transferred wealth to the suburbs, and then made it financially prohibitive to return is one of the great projects of urbanism.

Buried in Seattle’s feasibility report for legalizing 4 and 6 units is a fascinating stat that 70,000 of the 100,000 formerly single family zoned lots have sold since 2005. Think about how much wealth was made over that time and not a peep about “greedy homeowners” or “gentrification”
