It’s really important that the #Vancouver Downtown Business Association, who were originally against bike-lanes, are now among their most vigourous supporters, because of ACTUAL EVIDENCE that they’re better for downtown business than any street parking they replaced. Safe bike-lanes mean business.

In Montreal, drinking alcohol at parks is common and mostly legal. It’s normal to meet up with friends with some beer/wine and snacks. There are often bathrooms and individuals collecting empty cans for the deposit. I find this fascinating. What about where you live? Common or not? Legal or not?

Victoria, BC has made a section of Government St. car-free from noon on every day and it's made a big difference to how pleasant it is to walk down, shop, and hang out there. In the height of tourist season, there's room to move around as there hasn't been in the past. It's great!

What makes this a nice NEIGHBORHOOD STREET? • Trees • Sidewalks • Safe mix car & bikes • Parking just one side • Humps each 50 meters • 30 Kph (20mi) max speed Equity? Seems to be the standard in upper income neighborhoods of Toronto, but rarely seen in lower income. Why?

Saint John Transit has innovated and improved dramatically despite receiving no provincial funding, but its aging fleet and rising costs are unsustainable. Without a provincial investment program the province risks missing out on the economic and social returns that quality transit delivers.
