That was a perfectly reasonable response. That he wants everyone to live with equal rights in a democracy. Imagine coming off a month of hard campaigning, relentless smears and a loss; to then have to look at and listen to that disingenuous piece of shit Nick Robinson. www.bbc.co.uk/news/videos/...

Six months ago I assumed that the various ex-Corbynite factions joining the Greens would have learned from previous failures and developed the patience to wait until after a few successes in the next elections before trying to pursue the wilder elements of an entryist agenda. Well, that was wrong.

The old take from commentators that Burnham’s popularity was overstated has aged very badly: 54.8% in Makerfield and 45.2% in Holborn & St Pancras.

Is Europe getting its act together to decrease its dependence on the United States? No. In fact, our leaders are only increasing our dependence – for instance on the subject of energy. But there's some hope. Watch today's conversation with @jameskerlindsay.bsky.social:

Former Labour Deputy Leader Lord Thomas Watson, now Senior VP at Palantir UK, wrote to me defending their public contracts. Instead of trading letters, I’ve challenged him to an open, public debate. He can defend Palantir’s ethos; I’ll argue for public accountability. Will you accept, Tom?
Formal letter from Clive Lewis MP, Member of Parliament for Norwich South, to Lord Thomas Watson of Wyre Forest, Senior Vice President of Palantir Technologies UK Limited, dated 7 October 2026. In the letter, Lewis challenges Watson to a public debate regarding Palantir's role in government contracts and public institutions. Lewis rejects Watson's claim that criticisms malign software engineers, stressing that elected officials must scrutinize corporate power, democratic control, and public accountability. He proposes a debate with an impartial chair, equal time, and audience questions.

Polanski's gamble fails - as the Burnham honeymoon rolls on
Labour candidate Sagal Abdi-Wali comfortably saw off a challenge from Green Party leader Zack Polanski to retain Sir Keir Starmer's former seat of Holborn and St Pancras for Labour.

Here is another thing you won't hear on most of the UK media. That the far right in the UK is just as bad as the far right in places like France and Germany, if not worse (see RNLI). Instead, often the UK media seem to mumble something about "legitimate concerns" far too often for my liking.

Yep, John Major was a decent man and a Tory leader far better than anything that has followed, but his Cabinet contained appalling bigots like Peter Lilley who inflicted serious misery on a lot of people and stigmatised many more.

Holborn and St Pancras was a poor result for Polanski. Maybe the Greens did OKish, maybe, but that is different. Polanski was supposed to deliver breakthroughs. Along with his abject, cowardly failure to lead on anti-Zionism, he's had a terrible week.

This is classic EU national government behaviour. And because the EU’s most powerful institution (the Council) is virtually unknown to citizens (who receive no civics education about the EU), they get away with it. It suits national leaders to keep their citizens ignorant of their voting there.

Sure. And my mother, if she said "no" to me going to a party, would never, after pestering, say "okay, you can go". She would say "you do what you want anyway, why even ask me". Being too proud to climb down does not necessarily mean one is not grateful when the rescue helicopter appears.

A common complaint is that people on the Left ignore the dynamic effects of tax cuts. They just do a simple multiplication exercise and don't think about behavioural responses. That's often fair. But it's exactly the trap the Conservatives have fallen into here.

Kemi Badenoch wants to exempt the family home from inheritance tax. But that creates a perverse incentive for elderly people to *upsize* to save IHT. That could double the cost of the policy, and push £100bn+ from savings into housing. A 🧵 on bad tax cuts.
