I have to say I appreciate the photo editor choosing the precise image that looks exactly like Rahm just saw the blackmail threats in his email.

It’s also kind of wild that a 20-person patio equals 1 parked car. Cars are absolute hogs for space. And they’re almost always single-occupant.

Attending means standing outdoors, if the line's outdoors at least you see the band.

Where I live they have Fluff Fest, which started as basically band kids selling Fluffernutters to raise money with some local businesses doing some mildly cute stuff and has mutated into this impossible-to-attend event that literally has its own beer brewed for the occasion.

Also it's not a coincidence every viral video of some poor kid eating shit on an ebike or doing stupid irresponsible shit like swerving is not a white kid.

TBH having dealt with the anti-e-bike weirdoes it really does boil down to "Your kid can cruise down the road on his face for all I care, but that I can imagine any possible injury to myself no matter how theoretical means he should be shackled to a radiator until he's 45."

One point I make to people occasionally is that a nuclear weapon doesn't have to be detonated anywhere near the US to kill loads of Americans.

Abbott’s attack ads have been playing nonstop on streaming for almost two months, and are almost solely aimed homeowners. Hinojosa’s are mostly online and tend to revolve around the broader message of “if Abbott wanted to do something, he’d have done it by now.”

Beyond these supernatural elements, Bellairs's novels evoked "a child's concern with comfort
and security in his real world," addressing childhood fears of abandonment, loneliness, and bullying, as well as coming of age.

This is what endlessly annoys me about people claiming we lived in a utopia of barter (aside from the fact that there's no evidence this was ever true,) everybody has bartered for things, if only trading their time for a physical good, and it's one of the most annoying fucking experiences ever.

Dan Seitz @dseitz.bsky.social · 3h
There's a big difference between "I cannot physically or logistically do X" which is a reasonable discussion (although I would argue you need to test "logistically") and "I don't understand how other people achieve basic tasks in ways other than my own" which isn't.

Dan Seitz @dseitz.bsky.social · 3h
Part of the whole problem here is that a lot of people just simply cannot conceive of something, and their argument is "Well, I can't figure out how to do it, therefore it's impossible to do" and this is so thuddingly stupid as a concept it doesn't deserve serious consideration.

What's ultimately funny about the whole AI shitshow is that the very obvious use case of deploying AI to translate papers and collate research into potentially commercial applications at scale is both practical and a way to make a truly offensive amount of money.

It's quite possible to do all these things, and also, not everyone has to or wants to go car-free. Simply replacing some car trips with bike trips is a step in the right direction. This all-or-nothing framing from anti-bike people is such bad faith bullshit.
