Alpabzug! Swiss mountain alpaca herding – in pictures
Each autumn the traditional alpabzug (descent of herds) sees farmers in Switzerland move their livestock from mountain pastures down to valley barns. In the Griesalp area above Kiental around 70 alpacas were herded down the valley, before being transported by truck to their winter farm at Aeschi, near Spiez, in the Bernese Oberland

After Saxony-Anhalt, next Sunday's regional vote in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania could be even more devastating for the Christian Democrats. If current trends continue, the SPD may end up in first place, ahead of the AfD. The Greens and BSW are struggling to clear the electoral threshold, but...
The graph shows how the various parties have been polling in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania since the last regional election. While the SPD has seen a surge in the polls over the last month, the CDU has been steadily losing support.

One giant step: first known T rex footprints found in North Dakota
The 23ft-long trackway, consisting of four three-toed footprints, two left and two right, date from 66.5m years ago The first known series of footprints from an adult Tyrannosaurus rex has been found in North Dakota by a team of scientists. The 23ft-long trackway – consisting of four three-toed footprints, two left and two right – was first identified in the south-west of the state, in the dinosaur fossil area known as Hell Creek Formation, last year by researchers from the Denver Museum of Nature and Science in Colorado and Liverpool John Moores University in the UK. Technology being everywhere doesn’t mean it belongs everywhere. The tech industry wants us to believe that AI in early education is not only inevitable, but necessary. We don't see it that way. This week, we announced a moratorium on generative AI for public school students in 2-K to 8th grade.
We’re eliminating AI use for students in 2-K through 8th grade for the upcoming school year.

A very strong default rule prohibiting AI use, but instructors can deviate provided they do so in writing, etc. Default rules are an important signal of what we are trying to teach and what we value, and protects those who WANT to implement these policies. Course evals are still important (sadly).
