A fairer voting system can't wait until after the next general election. We need electoral reform now.
WE NEED FAIR VOTING BEFORE THE NEXT ELECTION

ELLIE CHOWNS
MP FOR NORTH HEREFORDSHIRE

"The PM cannot acknowledge the unfairness of a system capable of handing power to a government with a minority of the vote share, and then say the answer is to let that happen exactly once more before he fixes it.

Burnham must act with urgency to immediately jumpstart the National Commission, guarantee timely progress, and ensure its recommendations are delivered in time for a fairer voting system to be in place at the next general election."

We can conclude here that either 1) these lads have been assured none of this is going to happen, or 2) somewhere in Labour HQ there is a drawer full of evidence against them that’s so utterly damning, all of these guys will squeak “Oh yes I love nationalising things” like their nuts are in a vice.

Sadly there was a climate & nature shaped hole at the heart of Burnham’s speech. Nothing on the benefits of nature restoration & same old words on a “pragmatic” approach to N Sea drilling. There’s nothing pragmatic about pouring fuel on a scorching earth - he should rule out Rosebank & Jackdaw now

He had been Eight Years upon a Project for extracting Sun-Beams out of Cucumbers,* which were to be put into Vials hermetically sealed, and let out to warm the Air in raw inclement Summers. He told me, he did not doubt in Eight Years more, he should be able to supply the Governors Gardens with Sun-shine at a reasonable Rate; but he complained that his stockwas low, and intreated me to give him something as an Encouragement to Ingenuity, especially since this had been a very dear Season for Cucumbers. I made him a small Present, for my Lord had furnished me with Money on purpose, because he knew their Practice of begging from all who go to see them.

Greens just four points behind Labour in urban areas, poll reveals
Exclusive: Party could take 40 seats if result replicated at next election, according to Labour-linked thinktank The Green party is just four points behind Labour in urban constituencies, putting them within touching distance of taking as many as 40 seats if the result was replicated at the next election, according to new polling by a Labour-linked thinktank. The survey by ThinkLabour, which has extensive links to Andy Burnham’s government, finds that urban voters have moved in large numbers towards Zack Polanski’s party since the 2024 general election. The research highlights the challenge Labour faces holding onto the Holborn and St Pancras seat in the face of a challenge from Polanski himself at next month’s byelection. Continue reading...

The fact that interest on illegal donations doesn't need to be returned creates a perverse incentive to receive impermissible donations in the first place. Why wouldn't you, if you can pocket quite significant interest, and there's no sanction if you return it within the legal time frame?

Galloway standing (or threatening to) in H&SP is a perfect opportunity for Polanski to reaffirm his support for trans rights and for Ukraine (which is fully compatible with Polanski's understandable urge to question the workings of Nato in a Trumpian world). novaramedia.com/2026/09/14/g...
Screenshot of paragraph from the linked Novara Media article: 'Galloway framed his candidacy as a direct challenge to Polanski. Speaking on his talk show, Galloway cited Polanki’s [sic] support for Ukraine and his position on trans rights among the reasons he would oppose him. Later in the show, Galloway said he supports Russia’s war on Ukraine as part of “a wider anti-imperialist, anti-colonialist framework”.'
