At the moment, people on Health & Care Worker Visa have no recourse to public funds. Why deny social security if they e.g. injure themselves at work? This recent RCT of an "AI stethoscope" claims the technology "shows promise" for diagnosing cardiovascular conditions. It does not. It is a textbook example of the risks of conducting unprincipled 'per protocol analyses'. Once again, peer review at a major medical journal has failed. 🧵 1/

Whenever I see stories like the below. I am reminded of the excellent paper @felly500.bsky.social shared from @thelancet.com www.thelancet.com/journals/lan... Showed that mostly expensive new drugs generate less impact than investing the same amount into other areas of health.
