Today’s #WIPWednesday for Ed’s World, Chapter 7. This week has been slow thanks to a cold from hell itself making it hard to look at screens, but is this anything? Still hoping to post some #gentlebeard nonsense as usual by Sunday 💜🩵

'I told you Lucius, it's SUPPOSED to be top secret. Need to know basis only. If Stede has found out..!'
'He hasn't babes, promise. I told you, he was too pissed for most of the journey to even notice I was there anyway, let alone what I was up to. In the mornings he was mostly pissed at you for "casting him alone upon the cruel sea" or whatever, and in the evenings he just got plain old pissed on fancy liquor with that Jeffery, crying about how much he misses you and trying to read us Shakespearean sonnets. It was kinda cute, in an old-man-pouting kinda way. At least it was the first night... Aaanyway, let's get these things in before it rains again, yeah?' Lucius says, noticing Ed's expression turn even more murderous than it was when he suspected him of blowing Stede's surprise.

i feel like i don't really have anything for wip wednesday this week, so here's something from the next trucker fic, which i keep thinking about diving back into lately. (apologies if i've already shared this bit; i lose track. if i did, it was probably at least a year ago.)

“Ed, darling, will you please breathe?” his partner said, a gentle tease in his voice despite the sympathy in his eyes as Ed pulled up beside an unfamiliar little blue Corolla, which he figured had to belong to Doug. He put the truck in park and cut the ignition, turning to Stede with a deep breath and a heavy sigh. Stede smiled fondly and reached over to cup his cheek, stroking it with his thumb a little before giving him two little pats like a fucking kid. “You’ll be fine.”

“How’d you get so cool all of the sudden?” he groused, catching Stede’s wrist and placing a kiss over his pulse. “I’m not supposed to be the only one shitting myself over this.”

Stede laughed and leaned in for a quick kiss. “Please don’t shit yourself,” he joked. “And rest assured, I’m nervous, too, but they’re my family and I know them pretty well, I like to think, so I suppose it’s a different sort of anxiety. I just want you all to like each other.”

Ed sighed again, trying his damndest to settle down. “Hold my hand a minute before we get out?” he requested, and it felt a little silly, but Stede did it with absolutely no fuss, lacing their fingers together and putting his other hand over the back of Ed’s, thumb stroking gently over his tattooed skin. “Gonna be real hard not to be all over you all weekend.”

Ed is rubbing his chin and regarding Stede thoughtfully. “Some aro-spectrum folks desire a bit of romance. Are you open with your partners about being aro?” He has shifted into Blackbeard mode, it seems.
“Things have never gotten that far. I’m not fully certain, and it’s mostly been situations where the expectations are ephemeral…”
“Hookups?”
“Well… yes. I wouldn’t mind companionship on a longer-term basis, but I haven’t known what to say or found the right person, I suppose.”
“You deserve that if you want it. And you don’t need to deny yourself dates or sex with men just because you lack experience,” Ed says decisively. “Not when you have me.”
“What—what do you mean?”
“I’m an expert on this stuff, remember?” Ed winks. “I’ll help you learn the ropes. Dating, sex, all of it.”
“You mean give me advice?” Stede asks. Surely Ed is not offering hands-on help.
