Well, he was looking to feel his feelings, wasn’t he? He rests his head on the back of the chair, closes his eyes, and lets the music smother his senses and give order to his thoughts.

This album. Damn.

There’s so much life in these songs. It’s not, Ed knows, the life he’s lived, but it feels like it belongs to him anyway. Like the words are whispered into some deep part of him, somewhere he tries to keep things tucked away. But under pressure, those things tend to leach out like poison. He’s not sure if the music is a catalyst or the antidote.

There’s loose threads in the patchwork quilt of Ed’s life he’s inclined to leave alone. Frayed edges, threadbare patches, holes where the batting shows through. Stede, though—Stede’s thread is still looped through the eye of the needle, waiting to be stitched or tied off. And Ed’s been holding the whole thing together with his bare hands.

(Is that how sewing works? Who the fuck knows. So yeah, maybe Ed’s found a little comfort in some mild-mannered crafting channels his YouTube algorithm started suggesting a while back. It’s not like he absorbed anything important from it like life lessons or whatever; shut up.)

Back to these fucking texts. He taps the screen to compose a reply, the keyboard sliding up. His thumbs hover over it, unsure where to begin.

i've said it already, but we had such an amazing time in yosemite with pirate friends. photos can't capture it, but here's a few -- from the valley floor to glacier peak; from a seasonal river to staring up at sequoia tree tops...
