From Will Self of all people, an absolutely clinical deconstruction of Kathleen Stock. Nice to know that some writers can see through some of the GC crowd.
J'accuse Kathleen Stock of helping convert an allegation of academic misconduct into the story of 'Cambridge's DEI darling', thereby making Arday's institutional and racial symbolism integral to the accusation. There's no need to label Stock transphobic: she's done it herself, whatever the nonsense she spouts about 'gender criticality'; just as there's no need to demonstrate that her personal agon is that she hasn't been allowed to peddle her own prejudices in return for status and prestige: that, too, she has amply confirmed through her writings and public statements. She, and her supporters clearly feel they are winning: I wonder if they know what that will look like, or how high the body-count will have to go before they're satisfied.

bad news everyone, we won't see the eclipse because there's a new moon tonight, a full moon would block out the sun, but a new moon is invisible so the light will just shine right through. Surprised the astronomers haven't picked up on this

Biggest march against the far-right in British history. 📍 Happening now: Park Lane to Whitehall. You won't want to miss it. #Together
An aerial news broadcast shot from Sky News showing a large crowd of protesters gathered in a public square in Central London. The crowd is densely packed between high-rise city buildings and a green park area. A red and white news banner at the bottom reads, "LONDON MARCH: Protesters set to march against the far right." Small colorful tents and banners are visible within the crowd.

The last few days did not move the main story forward AT ALL. It's just a guy eating little treats and doing nothing. And so many plot holes. He says, "no more little treats," and then he's eating another little treat in literally the next scene.

Here's an ace #buyastrangerabook day offer. Disability History Month starts on November 20th. And to help raise its profile @rachelcdailey.bsky.social is offering to buy TWO people a copy each of her book Ramping Up Rights. Check out the blurb and let us know if you'd like a copy. UK only
Front cover of Rachel's book, Ramping Up Rights : An Unfinished History of British Disability ActivismBlurb for Rachel's book.

A 100-year history of enraging injustices and inspiring campaigns: the fight for British disability rights isn't over. From the 'crippled suffragette', to '80s punks chaining themselves to buses, to campaigners taking a stand online, this book celebrates the amazing activists and protest actions behind the UK's long battle for disabled people's rights to live. Rachel Charlton-Dailey highlights a shockingly overlooked tradition of disabled struggle.

She unpacks how British attitudes and policy went so wrong in the twenty-first century, and interviews campaigners and disabled people about how they have reclaimed power, from resisting government reforms to changing the media narrative. She explores live frontiers in the push for civil rights--from the scandalous inaccessibility of our education and transport systems, to the existential debates about genetic screening and 'the right to die'. In this powerful book, honouring past disability activism becomes a call to action.

Charlton-Dailey shows readers how hard, and how often, disabled people and their allies have fought, and won. She gives them the energy to keep fighting back.
