More details from a Comcast event this evening: The drones that it's testing in Houston do not sport any corporate branding, in case anybody there was wondering if they should start looking in H-Town skies for "Xfinity Air" drones. And no, they are not armed.

Fascinating slide from a Comcast presentation at #TechExpo26 about how it's using fiber sensing and drones (yes, drones) to deal with the non-trivial problem of people stealing fiber, cable and other wires to sell their metal components for scrap.
Photo of a slide showing a map of Houston with "vandalism clusters" in orange, drone launch hubs in blue, and scrap recycling centers in green. A panel below lists scrap values for different types of cables, with bare copper topping out at $4.50-$5.50 a pound. Coaxial cable has the lowest value: $1.50-$2.50/lb.

To underscore why this is especially awful for those who may not know, the measles vaccine is usually given at 12 months. Newborns rely on community immunity to prevent exposure, which until recently we have had in the US. This quite literally could be anyone's newborn. None of this had to happen.
