This Variable oystercatcher, momentarily revealed a bouquet of white tipped feathers under its wing. Variable oystercatchers (New Zealand) are named for their plumage variability: some are pure black, others are black and white pied, and many somewhere in between. #BestOfTheMonth #BirdOfTheDay
