Therefore it can only endeavour to save itself on a wave of obscurantism, holding out fantastic symbols and painted substitutes for ideals in order to cover the reality of the universally bated moneybags. Fascism is the final reduction of this process to a completely worked out technique.
In unity with this revolt against science goes the general cultural reaction, the revolt against culture, the revolt against education, the cutting down of education in all capitalist countries, the increasing reactionary discipline and militarisation in the universities and schools, and-the final and complete symbol of the culminating stage revealed by Fascism-the
burning of the books. *

This is extremely bad even for the UK. Even if this gets dropped (which if anything still even remotely functions in our legal system it will), this is sheer intimidation against prospective lawyers deciding whether or not to take jobs defending people being politically persecuted in this country.

Am I reading this right - the company that made a *failed* bid to build a new runway at Heathrow will still be paid £4mil, funded by increased ticket prices? Every writer, artist, and academic who’s ever wasted months of their life on proposals, and not even received an email in return, take note.

Lunacy. Here's Emmer 10 years ago.
A decade ago, Emmer created a Congressional Somalia Caucus with then-U.S. Rep. Keith Ellison. When people in St. Cloud called for a moratorium on Somali immigrants, he pushed back, calling the proposed ban “un-American.”

“If you’re asking me how I feel about immigrant populations who are in this country legally, and who are actually trying to find a better way for themselves and their families, I support it wholeheartedly,” he said at a town hall in 2015.

Minnesota has the largest population of Somali-Americans in the U.S.

Mr. Artan said, “I think that they have a problem with my country,” adding that he would return to the Somali capital, Mogadishu, on Wednesday. He said that he had been preparing for the World Cup for four years, taking courses with FIFA in Qatar and in the United Arab Emirates.

Hilarious and deeply insightful writing by @brianphillips.lol.
Because the truth is, tech doesn't have an image problem. It doesn't have a message problem. It has an intention problem. What's wrong with the axe murderer who broke into my house is not that he hasn't successfully persuaded me to buy into his narrative. What's wrong is that he's trying to kill me with an axe. Similarly, when you launch a product that's designed to put millions of people out of work, block access to sources of verifiable truth, replace human creativity with slop, and lower the barriers to every sort of atrocity, the problem isn't that you haven't told the public a good story about those things. The problem is that you are trying to do them.

Trump on his Iran deal: "Nobody has seen it, or knows what it is"
If I make a deal with Iran, it will be a good and proper one, not like the one made by Obama, which gave Iran massive amounts of CASH, and a clear and open path to a Nuclear Weapon. Our deal is the exact opposite, but nobody has seen it, or knows what it is. It isn’t even fully negotiated yet. So don’t listen to the losers, who are critical about something they know nothing about. Unlike those before me who should have solved this problem many years ago, I don’t make bad deals! Today was my last day at Google. I have made a conscious choice of leaving for better. I am looking forward to spending more time with my kids, family and friends. I am looking forward to not yelling at my kiddo when he comes into my office because I am still busy until 7 PM due to some broken shit. Because we no longer have a sensible software engineering process and everything is rushed.
I am also looking forward to sleeping through the night without getting paged at 2 AM! Why and for what you ask? Because a job that, I kid you not, literally needed 2 CPUs and 20GB of RAM could not start for some time. It was starved for 2 CPUs, when God knows how many hours of CPU and RAM resources are going into GenAl! I had to get up to get an emergency loan and ensure the job runs fine. And then not be able to go back to sleep until 5-6AM.
Furthermore, I am looking forward to thinking for myself and gaining some autonomy, rather than taking product and technical decisions made up by higher-ups and executives (who are probably using Al for those decisions) and feeding them to Al to generate garbage. This has become absolutely meaningless to me very quickly over the past year. I don't want to be just another execution arm for someone else.
Trust me, I am not against Al. Heck, I have a masters in Al. I use a lot of GenAl myself, but work has lost all meaning to me. This GenAl stuff and the way it is changing software engineering creative process might be cool and fun to someone without a computer science or software engineering background. It might give them a sugar high, making them think they have superpowers now, but I find absolutely no joy in it. Needless to say, the use of Al where it should not be used is reaching new levels of absurdity.
I want to go back to "basics" and think. I invite you to do that as well.
With that, cheers to a better tomorrow. Better for humans, not Al freaking agents!.
