I am always trying to explain to folks that most Americans have never met a Jew and people do not believe me and I just need you to understand that the perception that we are a powerful group in this country is intentionally created by antisemites and you’re unknowingly buying in.

Whenever I hear someone claiming that USAID was evil from a leftist perspective, I hear someone saying “yes, millions ARE dying because Musk and Trump killed USAID, but at least they’ll die free of American imperialism.” Notably it is never the people saying this who are dying.

I think it's dangerously reductive to call the Second World War simply a *colonial* War. It was the Last Imperial War, especially in the east. It was also a war that was explicitly fought to end Empire: rhetorically, economically and practically.

Now I know an ITALIAN is not trying to claim they have a more established nation— www.reddit.com/r/AskAnAmeri...

Do Americans form a distinct people, or are they mainly citizens of a shared state?
HISTORY
I live in Italy, and despite our regional differences, we're a fairly homogeneous and well-defined nation, with our own language, customs, and shared history tied to the peninsula.
The US, however, is so recent and so diverse that I often struggle to comprehend exactly what "the American people" are beyond citizens of the same sovereign state and people with a specific accent.
Americans can have very different origins, religions, languages, identities and looks and as a European, i struggle to see how that level of diversity makes a nation, in the sense of a people, not just a sovereign state. What am I missing?

Maybe my favorite thing about THE YOUNG INDIANA JONES CHRONICLES is that it largely eschews the supernatural stuff from the movies in order to be something of an educational series *except* for the one episode where young Indy fights Dracula.

I made a ✨Nighttime✨ version! 🏺🍷🌙💋
Scene description: In this scene we start next to a crowded thermopolium where men drink and women wave out the window from the rooms above. On the street, one man walks to the pub, another gazing up at the women leaning out of the window. Giggling lupae in togas also look up at the window, while across the road the brothel owner shouts and points for them to get to work. Their sister has already found a client further up the street, and the two are watched by a tearful man sitting at the thermopolium (her boyfriend?). A similar transaction is occurring in the distant background, where a man walks towards a beckoning toga-clad lady, whilst reaching into his purse to pay her pimp. Finally, unrelated to the street’s commerce, a litter carried by four enslaved men enters the scene in the very distance. Inside are high-status Romans returning from a party at their friends, and one of them starts to pull the curtain closed to hide from the debauchery on the streets.

I saw him live twice in 1995 when he was supporting Bowie. Unfortunately he didn’t cancel either of those, but he did flounce off the tour a few days later.
