I try not to whinge about AI too much here bc I feel like bsky has that covered, but when I see people sharing AI-generated music... that is so fucking depressing Making art is the best thing humans do and music maybe the purest form of that--if we're outsourcing that we should just pack it in

I'm for a robust independent press that holds everyone to account, but... it's September before the election, and the country might be better off if our side had more hacks ready to pile onto Susan Collins than bold independent truth-tellers eager to relitigate inscrutable factional beefs

Looking for a new role (hire me for UI/UX and frontend engineering work!) and am amazed at how much worse of a platform @workday.com is for applications than literally everything else. UX and UI really feels like a 15+ year old website

in this i mean that llms are a tool and multiplier, especially with complicated problems like research and engineering, where tedious or feasibly impossible tasks can be delegated writing and art are for people who have something to say, and therefore generating it loses its value to me

lots of replies asking about this so here are two solid use cases for AI: 1. LLMs are good at summarizing widely available information. Ask one to summarize a news story you aren't caught up on. 2. Girlfriend. Ask the AI to be your girlfriend. Now you're well-informed and you have a girlfriend.

TLDR these spam PACs like Progressive Turnout Project are robbing your elderly Democratic parents with constant, urgent calls to donate, but less than 10% of the donated money goes to campaigns they claim to support.
Through 2025, Pascal's network of PACs raised more than $390 million from individual donors.
According to my analysis of FEC filings, roughly $20 million of that went directly to Democratic candidates, or funded independent expenditures supporting them. Another $100 million or so covered field and get-out-the-vote programs and the payroll to staff them, and roughly $20 million more went to administrative costs. The rest - an estimated $249 million, or 64 cents of every dollar raised — went to fundraising itself. 3

The fundraising texts you delete are working on someone. It’s infuriating and heartbreaking. An 85yo in Ohio gave more than double the value of his home. A 91yo in an Indianapolis senior facility gave 25K times. The DCCC/DSCC don’t just tolerate the spammers who exploit seniors. They take part.

I know you're not allowed to say this during the current debate, but the reason the left dominates academics, art, comedy, and music is that the right has stupid, discredited ideas, they're not funny, and dull resentment does not make for good art. No grand conspiracy required.

NEW: U.S. courts will start publishing data on how many times the feds do wiretaps using spyware and hacking tools, starting in 2029. As of now, we knew the FBI and others used spyware, but we had no idea how many times that was happening. Change comes after several requests from Sen. Ron Wyden.

kids today are literally confused about whether "partying" was real or an urban legend
From Reddit:

> Did millennials really party all the time?

> Gen Z here. I was shocked when I found out from a millennial co-worker that y’all had teen clubs. I heard about house parties, but dedicated teen clubs? Then when it was time for college, you went to the club or had some kind of party every single weekend, living it up. Now some millennials on TikTok claim that after college, they were partying on work nights, still clocking in the next day. For some reason, the teen clubs have since disappeared. I’m 23 now but even when I was in high school, that was not a thing. House parties were not that common either. They were more like get togethers with a small group of friends. We went to malls, but they were dying out at that point. Is it true that you were really living life this good? Or is it just exaggerated? I feel like my generation doesn’t really have fun like that and everyone is just super depressed and alone, more so since Covid. Even I’m pretty introverted, which sort of sounds ridiculous given this post. 😂 Just so you know, when I think of a “millennial party” I think of something out of Party Rock Anthem, Project X or Roderick’s party from the second DOAWD movie. It’s like I get nostalgia from something I didn’t even live through. I just feel like I didn’t really LIVE, if that even makes sense
