Desertec is very dead due to geopolitical risks. It's just a Russian natural gas pipeline by different means. The revolutionary thing about renewable energy for national governments is that it can be generated entirely within their borders without getting exceptionally lucky with geography.

"Where are your sociopaths congregating?" runs along a basic Prisons-Parliament axis; But the specific points of concentration along the way - Boardrooms, newspapers, HOAs, local sports league, dingy bars, homeless encampments? Who's got the most? - both filter and shape societies in subtle ways.

The capability overhang from the models we have today (and that are coming soon) are large enough that large-scale change to work and society over the next 5+ years is now inevitable even if AI development stops. We should spend more time thinking about mitigating the bad & encouraging the good.

Crazily enough the Marine Corps has the best solution to this I've seen yet. Reviewing officers have an average score, based on their individual reviews, and your "rating" is how your individual score fares as a statistical deviation from the reviewing officers average score, Not a score itself.

So, the Babiš government is trying to run the Orbán playbook of media control, just as the model is getting decisively rejected. This tendency of the Czech establishment to jump on an already derailed train reminds me of the massive Stalin monument, unveiled a year before Khrushchev's denouncement.

the influence of academics/NGO types drawn to radicalism for its own sake has been harmful here imo. The people impacted by bad policing don’t want to radically reimagine the entirety what crime is, they want their sheriff’s dept to be professionals who aren’t in literal gangs (real thing in LA)

I must admit the cynical exploitation of the news-worthiness asymmetry between a clear declaration ("The war is over: we have an agreement!") and the slow, uncertain realization ("Oh, no we don't...") is some truly advanced form of political cheesing.

Numerous powerful members of the US establishment were involved in a systemic sexual exploitation of 1000+ underage victims and have used their influence to sweep the entire affair under the rug, but since the face of the operation was Jewish, actually looking into it would be too conspiratorial 🤔

🤔 WWI was a Dunning-Kruger war, in that it was started by the country least ready to fight it, precisely because the K.u.K. military minds were too incompetent to even assess their own strategic situation.

Tweet by “Secretary of War” Pete Hegseth:
“The War Department is once again restoring freedom to our Joint Force.
We are discarding the mandatory flu vaccine requirement, effective immediately.”
Below there is a video of the announcement for his many, many illiterate fansBehind Hegseth’s big stupid face, a painting can be seen. The painting is of George Washington crossing the Delaware. It is by Emanuel Leutze. An article from the National Parks Service: Smallpox,
Inoculation, and the Revolutionary War
Boston National Historical Park
During the 1700s, smallpox raged through the American colonies and the Continental Army. Smallpox impacted the Continental Army severely during the Revolutionary War, so much so that George Washington mandated inoculation for all Continental soldiers in 1777. Just fifty-six years earlier, in 1721, Bostonian doctors and clergy introduced the procedure to the American colonies.
Without the vision and determination of these early Bostonians in normalizing inoculation, Washington may not have made the decision to mandate inoculation for the Continental Army. Though it was a controversial action, many historians credit the medical mandate with the colonists' victory in the Revolutionary War and the creation of the United States of America.
