Happy to share our latest preprint describing the first genome-wide mapping of G4s in T.Brucei, led by the amazing Ludovica Monti. We found that G4s accumulate in coding regions of the parasite, causing transcriptional perturbation upon treatment with G4-ligands. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

Ready for super-G4s? We have identified clusters of G4s in intergenic regions that act as super-enhancers in ovarian cancer cells, hence the name super-G4! These are de novo super-enhancers that are not underpinned by canonical epigenetic marks, supporting the epigenetic role of G4s rdcu.be/evXtf

Amazing latest development in NAR demonstrating a direct role of DNA methylation for anti-viral activity. This is also in line with what recently shown by @paeschkelab.bsky.social showing that DNA G-quadruplex structure can play a role in anti-viral activity! Exciting epigenetic times ahead!

And there you have it, phase separation can override binding affinity. This is a big dogma challenged, what if standard affinity is not a factor, or at least the only one, to determine protein and nucleic acid distribution in cells?
