"How can someone believe such a wild conspiracy theory?" Well you see, it's a power/control thing. They're trying to demonize someone they feel threatened by so they can gain dominance over them. #ConspiracyTheories

We have got to start talking about conspiracy theories as a power/control thing. Too many people are still confused why people spread conspiracy theories. You know how people will spread lies about someone they want to assert dominance over? It's that. It's exactly that. #ConspiracyTheories

People who are most likely to believe in conspiracy theories tend to share a specific blend of political views, pairing a desire for left-wing economic policies with conservative cultural values, reports Karina Petrova.

happy lunar new year of the horse! 🐴🔥 #art
Digital color illustration in warm to purple tones. Title at bottom reads: Unfettered. The entire canvas is filled with massively long, undulating strands of hair, generally flowing from top left to lower right. An equine creature jumps up and away from the mass, some hair strands twisting and flowing around and from it. Its long neck is made up of smaller twisting hair strands, and more hair flows from its head, withers, and fetlocks. Its face is a smooth full-face mask shaped to fit a human's face. The center of the mask is mostly covered by a large, sideways simplistic eye with a pinpoint pupil looking forward.

[週末自由帳] ハロウィーンの頃に描きたかった、殺人鬼に仮装した織座と刑事のような甚八。 ぬるめの流血表現があるので、念の為センシティブ設定しておきます。 Oriza dressed up as a murderer and Jinpachi as a detective, which I had planned to draw around Halloween. There is a little bit of bloodshed, so I've set the sensitive setting just in case.

I always tell this to my research assistants: if you use AI to summarize and write for you, you don't need to be my assistant. You don't need to do research at all. Research should be selfish: *you* (not a machine) learn how to read, write, innovate, and dream. Otherwise, what is the point?
Should you use ChatGPT to understand a paper?
No.

If you have an assignment due, getting ChatGPT to summarize something can be tempting for completing that task. But learning isn’t just a task to complete, you need to be the one who acquires knowledge and really chews on big questions. For the same reason it wouldn’t make sense to ask a robot to lift weights for you at the gym, it doesn’t make sense to ask an agent to “learn” papers for you. Learning how to think creatively is one of the hardest (and most valuable) types of things you can do. So if it feels hard, that’s because it is. For these reasons though, I highly caution against using LLMs too much. Any use of an LLM can risk reducing the overall “reps” your brain should be putting in. And you need practice. So really try your best to answer the questions I listed above on your own before going to an LLM to answer and learn for you.

Look...everybody likes a good shortcut. But LLMs aren't one. They're a longcut. They appear to save time, but they take away control. This isn't even touching on the many, many ethical and environmental concerns (others have done that). This is about integrity of data.

A key difference here is that while either can be incorrect, the structure of Wikipedia *creates context* and the structure of LLMs *destroys context* Wikipedia has linked sources and an edit history showing where information came from and who added it when An LLM just generates text

THIS THIS THIS. Using gendered language to describe energetic dualities *literally* reinforces the gender binary and, even worse, elevates binary gender to some sort of cosmic or divine truth. Not only is it cis-heterosexist, it’s false. Sex isn’t binary; gender is a construct. Use better words!

A young woman in Victorian grab, with chopstick-style hair fastenings, posing to resemble a cameo portrait from the game Fallen London.A grotesque anthropomorphised bat-man-skull, in a red shirt and cape, smeared in blood, standing in the snow.A person wearing real-life appropximations of the outfit that would get you the maximum scandal in Fallen London: red stockings, a barrel on a pair of braces, and a hideous necktie.Reflecting the 'change my mind' meme template, a young man sits at a desk looking down the camera with a smirk, behind a sign saying "I am the Jovial Contrarian, change my mind."
