Today, a federal judge approved the settlement between Paramount and a group of state attorneys general that sued to block its merger with Warner Bros. Discovery. Public Knowledge remains opposed to this settlement that poses harm to consumers and creatives alike:

Today, the FCC voted to provide more spectrum capacity for satellite broadband services. This additional spectrum clears the way for improving satellite broadband capacity for millions of rural Americans, and encourages innovation and competition in satellite services.

In the wake of 9/11, Congress passed the FirstNet Authority statute with the goal of creating a nationwide broadband network, so that first responders could communicate with each other at any place, no matter what network they used. Now, that authority is set to expire.

Reports indicate that a group of 12 state attorneys general resolved its antitrust lawsuit against Paramount/Skydance to halt its acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery. The suit alleged that the merger would cause serious harm to competition, raise prices, & reduce quality film and TV content.

When the phones wouldn't work here in DC on 9/11 (overwhelmed, I expect), it occurred to me this was exactly the kind of situation email was designed for. I was able to let my folks know I was OK, coordinate with my wife in Shady Grove, and get my son from daycare.

Virtually no one is claiming this Meta settlement is a big win for platform accountability and online safety, but it's definitely not nothing. The most concerning part is how the settlement sidesteps any First Amendment questions about age assurance and regulating recommendation algorithms.
