This is what it looks like year by year - 2026 is an unprecedented spike, well over triple the 1991-2020 average.
Line chart titled "UK: longest annual run of daily maximum ≥25°C, 1959–2026." The x-axis runs by year from 1959 to 2026; the y-axis shows the length in days (0 to about 55) of the longest unbroken spell each year during which the UK's daily maximum temperature reached at least 25°C somewhere in the country. A black line with small markers traces each year's value, fluctuating strongly year to year — typically between about 5 and 30 days, with earlier notable peaks including 1976 (30), 1983 (30), 1990 (26) and 1995 (40, the highest before 2026). The final point, 2026, spikes far above everything else to 52 days, marked with a dark red dot and a red "2026: 52 days" label. A red dashed linear-trend line rises gently across the record at +1.3 days per decade, and a black dotted horizontal line marks the 1991–2020 average of 16 days. The overall impression is large year-to-year variability around a slow upward trend, with 2026 as a dramatic outlier roughly three times the long-term average.

It’s 31st day of year hitting 30C in London. Think about that an entire month’s worth that’s 8.5% of the year. It well excels 1976 by 11 days, much more often than not judging by outlook this would be the final day but it’s hard to be sure in these unprecedented times.
