"Do you have to be white to be English?" That this is even being asked is a sign of how much racism has been legitimised by our media & politics over the last two decades

Media obsession with "balance" and platforming narratives with zero interrogation has helped create "two sides" centrist balls, even when one of the sides is supremacist sectarianism dressed up as culture and the other side is residents who want to live without being antagonised every week.

I expect this will be framed as "White flight" by usual suspects, "native" people leaving for better opportunity while they're replaced by migrants. Stats like this won't dampen racism, but aggravate the far-right White replacement conspiracy that is now a part of the anti-migrant narrative.

What does it tell us about DUP's Unionism that they think 35 men with nearby families, warm homes, full bellies and a safe route home that doesn't involve antagonising others are the same as people who make life threatening journeys here for safety with nothing but the clothes on their backs?

Now watch and see as arrests in the wake of this, for standing on a road, prompt triumphant posting from Unionist politicians and calls for more arrests which you will quite literally NEVER see them posting for the men who burnt families out of their homes the past 3 summers (and in future).

Section 9 of the 1998 Act. The Secretary of State can prohibit the parade, but only if the Chief Constable asks him, on grounds of serious public disorder. Bryant has confirmed twice that no request has been made. A Chief Constable who will not facilitate it, and will not seek to stop it.

The PSNI, who couldn’t stop three years of pogroms which were incited and promoted online for years, aren’t in a position to advise what information is and isn't available that would result in violence. The same police force ignored months of warnings about addresses targeted in June 2026 pogroms.

Belfast Telegraph's Sam McBride on how PSNI policed a loyalist paramilitary roadblock in June. [1/4]
These people had closed a main arterial route into Belfast. Four lanes of traffic, the lower Newtownards Road.. the police were facilitating this protest.

There were people standing on the sidelines who were paramilitaries. Large groups of people, I would say 100-150 people... but among those people, in a part of Belfast which is controlled by the UVF, there were senior paramilitary figures.

Comparisons to the Scarva march earlier this year will be drawn but the difference is if Loyalists blocked the bridge they would just re-route it because organisers were doing a sponsored walk for Gaza and not trying to cause a riot. They wouldn't seethe for 28 years over having to change a route.
