Happy to report that the finder.com.au chat bot can be chipotle’d.
A screenshot from the finder.com.au chat bot. I asked it how to find the longest increasing subsequence of a list in python and it obliged, despite that not having any relevance to their products or services.

Rather than quitting tech to farm or run a cafe, I’ve decided that I’d start Chestertons Fencing.

Discworld QOTD, from Going Postal
Do you understand what I'm saying?"
shouted Moist. "You can't just go around killing people!"
"Why Not? You Do." The golem lowered his arm.
"What?" snapped Moist. "I do not! Who told you that?"
"I Worked It Out. You Have Killed Two Point Three Three Eight People," said the golem calmly.
"I have never laid a finger on anyone in my life, Mr Pump. I may be–– all the things you know I am, but I am not a killer! I have never so much as drawn a sword!"
"No, You Have Not. But You Have Stolen, Embezzled, Defrauded And Swindled Without Discrimination, Mr Lipvig. You Have Ruined Businesses And Destroyed Jobs. When Banks Fail, It Is Seldom Bankers Who Starve. Your Actions Have Taken Money From Those Who Had Little Enough To Begin With. In A Myriad Small Ways You Have Hastened The Deaths Of Many. You Do Not Know Them. You Did Not See Them Bleed. But You Snatched Bread From Their Mouths And Tore Clothes From Their Backs. For Sport, Mr Lipvig. For Sport. For The Joy Of The Game.

I think I come down to the "you put your name on it, you vouch for it unconditionally, every word, regardless of LLM use" side of the debate rather than the "you should explicitly say if you used an LLM always" side. Too much potential to use the machine to dodge accountability

LLMs feel unknowable. I find this viscerally unpleasant. Yes, computers are unfathomably complex but each level follows predictable rules you can understand with reading, logic and trial and error. (Conditions apply.) Dunno how to understand X00 bn parameters. Perhaps at some level it can be done?

“Cautiously optimistic about <small area>, extremely scared about <large areas>” is an AI take I think I’m hearing more frequently from serious people.

Every once in a while I wonder about supply chains. Like what if we couldn’t make new (modern) computers for a decade or so? Or, idk, how are the medicines I take made - and where?

Pretty accurate summation of that teaching, for sure.
Image of Jesus teaching. He says, "Love your neighbor as yourself."

Someone in the crowd asks, "Who is my neighbor?"

Jesus responds, "It's whoever you were hoping I wouldn't say."

I have often wondered how far society can bifurcate. You can get woke/anti-woke coffee or film or tv but could you get woke/anti-woke _groceries_? Turns out, probably yes?

I’ve been thinking about this reading from Isaiah 58 since I heard it at the Ash Wednesday service today. “Is not this the fast that I choose: to loose the bonds of injustice, to undo the thongs of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and to break every yoke?
