Daniel Axtens @daxtens.bsky.social · 29/04/2026Happy to report that the finder.com.au chat bot can be chipotle’d. 010
Daniel Axtens @daxtens.bsky.social · 26/04/2026Yea. In my case I really really want people to learn stuff before an incident rather than us not knowing things when machines are crashing all around us 020
Daniel Axtens @daxtens.bsky.social · 26/04/2026To paraphrase something I said in a talk at work this week: “yes, but only if you know that the process of writing that little script won’t teach you something that will be more useful later on” 100
Daniel Axtens @daxtens.bsky.social · 23/04/2026I mean, you’re not wrong, although a fence never paged me 110
Daniel Axtens @daxtens.bsky.social · 23/04/2026Rather than quitting tech to farm or run a cafe, I’ve decided that I’d start Chestertons Fencing. 240
Daniel Axtens @daxtens.bsky.social · 16/04/2026I use Scroll Reverser with a Logitech MX Vertical over Bluetooth and it seems to work ok. OTOH, I’ve worn out a few scroll wheels so idk maybe it’s bad for me and I don’t realise. 010

Fuckley @opinionhaver.bsky.social · 20/03/2026I think I come down to the "you put your name on it, you vouch for it unconditionally, every word, regardless of LLM use" side of the debate rather than the "you should explicitly say if you used an LLM always" side. Too much potential to use the machine to dodge accountability 1231631

Daniel Axtens @daxtens.bsky.social · 06/03/2026My usual approaches are useless here. I can’t build my own llm. I can’t look at the source or throw it in a disassembler - it’s just matrix multiplication. Even if I understood multihead attention properly, the weights do not have individual meanings in the ways I am used to from code or circuits 000
Daniel Axtens @daxtens.bsky.social · 06/03/2026LLMs feel unknowable. I find this viscerally unpleasant. Yes, computers are unfathomably complex but each level follows predictable rules you can understand with reading, logic and trial and error. (Conditions apply.) Dunno how to understand X00 bn parameters. Perhaps at some level it can be done? 100
Daniel Axtens @daxtens.bsky.social · 06/03/2026Uplink! Now that is a name I’ve not heard in a long time. I was a big fan of the games Ambrosia published on the Mac - put many hours into the escape velocity series as a kid in particular. I think I was a bit too young to really click with uplink but I should give it another go sometime 010
Daniel Axtens @daxtens.bsky.social · 02/03/2026“Cautiously optimistic about <small area>, extremely scared about <large areas>” is an AI take I think I’m hearing more frequently from serious people. 010
