Now, at 47, I have bought exactly one new vehicle, in 2023 I think, because used car costs weren't coming down much from the pandemic price spike and I was afraid about what kinds of repair costs might loom for a plug-in hybrid. Will I ever buy a new car again? Maybe. It'll be an EV if I do. But...

True, and also, I grew up in a world where it felt like basically no one bought new cars at all. Even then (Seattle suburbs in the 90s), I knew this wasn't really true, but buying new was still coded as strange and extravagant to me.

People this contemptuous of human and civil rights, and with so little care or valuation of what it means to be human, aren’t out here arguing AI could be conscious because they want to defend it’s labor rights.🙄 More like “we enslaved this faux conscious entity, & it’s fine… so why not people too?”

A cynical part of me thinks the only reason these ghouls are pushing the “AI could be conscious rhetoric” is because when it comes to deciding whether humans or data centers should get access to limited energy and water resources, they want ambiguity about why humans should clearly take precedent.

Just as we've seen in the discourse this week, institutional betrayals of survivors by universities are usually met with thousands of people saying, "Why didn't she just go to the police?" And this is (part of) the answer. The police betray survivors just as consistently as universities do.

The reason cases stalled out is that New York City police only opted to interview 28% of identified suspects. In other words, they had enough information to move forward with a case, but they chose not to do it.

There is this belief we cannot shake that the reason so few sexual assault cases are prosecuted is because victims are "uncooperative." But in this independent review, 93% of victims participated in a police interview.

So about that batshit insane AI millenarian Silicon Valley sex cult running much of big tech….from Sonia Joseph: siliconvalleynotes.substack.com/p/agi-cnc-an...
Sonia Joseph y @soniajoseph_
To the journalists contacting me about the AGI consensual non-consensual (cnc) sex parties—
During my twenties in Silicon Valley, I ran among elite tech/Al circles through the community house scene. I have seen some troubling things around social circles of early OpenAl employees, their friends, and adjacent entrepreneurs, which I have not previously spoken about publicly.
It is not my place to speak as to why Jan Leike and the superalignment team resigned. I have no idea why and cannot make any claims.
However, I do believe my cultural observations of the SF Al scene are more broadly relevant to the Al industry.
I don't think events like the consensual non-consensual (cnc) sex parties and heavy LSD use of some elite Al researchers have been good for women. They create a climate that can be very bad for female Al researchers, with broader implications relevant to X-risk and AGI safety. I believe they are somewhat emblematic of broader problems: a coercive climate that normalizes recklessness and crossing boundaries, which we are seeing playing out more broadly in the industry today. Move fast and break things, applied to people.
There is nothing wrong imo with sex parties and heavy LSD use in theory, but combined with the shadow of 100B+ interest groups, leads to some of the most coercive and fucked up social dynamics that I have ever seen. The climate was like a fratty LSD version of 2008 Wall Street bankers, which bodes ill for Al safety.

this is a pretty wild exchange with someone seemingly in a moderator position
Bouie: Sure. Before I do, I want to say two things, just to establish them right now and kind of to say where I stand on some of this stuff. The first thing is: "Woke" is a term that comes from African American vernacular. It has its origins in the 1930s, and it has traditionally meant something along the lines of: Be aware of the ways that this society is not built for you. Be aware of the ways that you may face disadvantage and oppression in this society. Again, this is a term that emerged in Black vernacular in the 1930s. And that is, as far as I'm concerned,
what the term means. And the usage — Cottle: You are exactly one of about 20
people who think that's what the term
means.
Bouie: I know.Bouie: I know. Cottle: I always love the historical reference,
but that ain't where it's gone. Bouie: I think a lot of Black Americans would agree with me on this point, I'll say that. I think among commentators, sure, not very many people agree with me. Among the
people for whom the term - Cottle: Oh, wait, wait, wait. No, no, no. You can't pull that it's a split between commentators. And like, half of America has
decided what woke is, and it's not that. Bouie: Among Black Americans, it still
means what I just said. So I just want to say Cottle: But beyond the commentators, there's plenty of folks who have decided
something very different.

Full inclusion IS possible, but it requires a massive commitment of funding and resources that we already know the WA State legislature will not provide. We also know the feds, especially under mango fascist, will never fully fund IDEA. Yet we march forward. 🙄

BTW - we are expected to go full "inclusion" with SPED by 2033. At the current level of funding provided by the WA State legislature, we already know it's going to be a total failure. Kids will be put into classes without needed staff & supports, classroomTs will quit, wealthy parents go private.
