I see a lot of negative takes. Not sure I agree. Judaism is both a religion and a people. And for many atheists the peoplehood identity is stronger. For me - much stronger. Here’s some examples of jewish peoplehood. 1. You hear people say “I was raised catholic but I’m bo longer one.” But…

Maintain that this whole thing, from the incredibly awkward (seriously, just no) name through everything else about it, remains a deeply weird indictment of Econ as a field.

We live in a world where it is increasingly hard to trust other humans (are you a scammer, a bot, is this video real, has this photo been altered), and I think it kind of sucks that as a discipline we still don't have strong norms against sending fake emails/CVs/etc. to people. YMMV of course.

I see too many damn people looking at their damn phones while they drive (the vehicle is often actually in motion). This behaviour should lead to immediate revocation of license and serious fines. Truly unacceptable.

The boring but effective way to ensure 'AI alignment' has two steps: 1. make those who build and sell AI responsible for what it does. 2. apply our best existing alignment technology – the law – to them. Maybe the AI is sentient, malign or benign. Who cares? It doesn't matter for this to work.

Today we announce the Claude-led creation of a sweet sweet ggplot2 that we suspect could represent a new frontier in dataviz. Its precise function, technological utility (if any), or level of significance is not yet clear, but at minimum it is work I would have been proud to do as a PhD student.
