Some of you will read this and think it's funny. It's not funny.
A text image broken into 6 boxes. Titled "How to avoid sexual assault! a quick and easy guide*" by the "sexual violence centre cork"

The 6 boxes say:
1) Don't put drugs in people's drinks
2) Use the buddy system! If you can't stop yourself from sexually assaulting someone, ask a trusted friend to accompany you at all times to stop you.
3) When you come across someone who is drunk or asleep, the best thing to do is not rape them.
4) When you see a woman walking by herself, leave her alone.
5) If you are in a lift and someone steps in, remember to not sexually assault them.
6) Carry a whistle. If you think you might rape someone, blow the whistle until someone comes to stop you.

(in tiny print:)
*for perpetrators

AP Stylebook warns against anthropomorphizing AI systems: “Avoid language that gives them human characteristics… Instead, explain what a system does, how well it performs, who built it and who could be affected by it.”

Artificial intelligence systems do not think, feel, want or understand. Avoid language that gives them human characteristics. This is called anthropomorphizing, when we ascribe human traits, emotions or behaviors to non-human things, such as animals or inanimate objects.
Instead, explain what a system does, how well it performs, who built it and who could be affected by it.

Macklemore has put out an incredible statement about being removed from Ed Sheeran’s tour. His removal was engineered by Trump’s bestie Robert Kraft, the owner of the Patriots and Foxborough stadium who rallied other owners to silence Macklemore for speaking out about Palestine.
Screengrab from Instagram: macklemore •
Last Monday, in the middle of all the media attention surrounding Pink and what I said at MetLife, Ed told me that Robert Kraft called him. We were scheduled to play Gillette Stadium later this month, which is owned by the Kraft Group. Ed told me that Kraft said I would not be allowed to perform in his stadium. Ed also told me that Kraft had rallied some of the other stadium owners and collectively they gave him an ultimatum: if Macklemore stays on the tour, you will not be allowed to play in our venues.

The details aren't quite up on the website yet, but @dancingmedievalist.bsky.social and I are organizing a subtheme for the 2027 @sewaneemedieval.bsky.social that I'm extremely excited about. Deadline for abstracts is 10/15, give us all your authentic/inauthentic hot takes!
Scandalous In/Authenticity
Megan L. Cook | Colby College | mlcook@colby.edu
Clint Morrison, Jr. | University of Wisconsin - Whitewater | morrisoc@uww.edu

In response to the conference theme, this thread invites panels and papers that consider moments in medieval literature and culture in which authenticity or inauthenticity becomes a site of scandal, concern, or disruption. Such moments of epistemic crisis inevitably raise foundational questions about perception, the nature of truth, and social norms and cohesion.

Recent work on authenticity and inauthenticity has considered the complicated relationship between the concept of the “original” and the “forgery” respectively, emphasizing their mutually constitutive status. What can we learn about structures of meaning-making in and about the Middle Ages by considering instances disputed, ambiguous, or contested authenticity?

Papers might consider these issues within a range of frameworks, including:
the textual (canon, attribution, translation, apocrypha and pseudepigrapha)
the ludic (disguise, performance, impostors)
the religious (discernment, heresy and orthodoxy, relics)
the aesthetic (artifice, imitation, copying)
the moral (forgery, hypocrisy, deceit)
the political (public attitude, accountability, narrative, sovereignty, succession)

We also welcome proposals that consider questions of authenticity and inauthenticity in the Middle Ages diachronically, whether by looking to medieval ideas about the biblical and classical past, or to post-medieval explorations of the Middle Ages through medievalism, historiography, or even hoax.

A review essay on recent work in close reading in EXEMPLARIA by Ingrid Nelson calls CLOSE READING FOR THE 21C "the most valuable teaching text I have discovered in years" www.tandfonline.com/doi/pdf/10.1...
The collection Close Reading for the Twenty-First Century (2025) complements
Guillory’s essay, explicating and demonstrating the practice that Guillory theorizes.
Edited by Dan Sinykin and Johanna Winant, this book has much to offer beginning
close readers as well as experienced practitioners. The “Introduction” organizes the
mechanics of close reading into five components: “Scene Setting,” “Noticing,” “Local
Claiming,” “Regional Argumentation,” and “Global Theorizing.” This breakdown,
together with the brief critical history of close reading in the discipline of literary studies
that follows it, makes this book the most valuable teaching text I have discovered in years.
I am already using it to teach close reading and to structure assignments in my under-
graduate courses.
