oh hey! this is my essay! it's been published at a personally funny time for me, really. i've been on the brink of a (for all intensive purposes) relapse all week. i'm glad that mothership shared this piece, i'm really proud of it.

the only thing that heated rivalry and pillion have in common is that people keep trying to out the lead actors

010

newt @mossheadlives.bsky.social · 08/02/2026

btw if u leave pillion and come out of it thinking wow the lead character is sooooo ugly; ur brain is made of nasty things and i dont like u!!!!!! conventional beauty standards have rotted ur brain and they are closing u off from some of the nastiest twinks in the world !!!!!!

newt @mossheadlives.bsky.social · 08/02/2026

PILLION AND HEATED RIVALRY ARE WILDLY DIFFERENT STORIES AND THE ONLY COMPARISON TO BE MADE IS THE FACT THAT THE CENTRAL CHARACTERS ARE QUEER!!!!!!!!!!!!! OH MY GOD

there’s this very strange martyrdom happening in the eurovision community right now, i’ve heard it mentioned a couple of times, and it’s something along the lines of: we have to be here to witness what’s going on. we have to cover the contest critically in case no one else will

pillion is a movie about a guy who wants a boyfriend but catapults past that hurdle and gets a dominant instead. i cannot BELIEVE that there is discourse about the dynamic being abusive. it's a story of self-discovery, regret, loss, and freedom. it's complicated but it's all very clearly consensual
