This conference was so much needed, both personally and professionally. The best thing was seeing academics who had been made to feel alone or a bit weird for doing their creative medieval work realise they have a community of people doing this, and public audiences keen to engage with it!

Was wonderful not just to see this beautiful film, but also to see familiar places and Margery joining friends from the Northern Leg pilgrimage I once walked with. I like the idea she might feel more at home in their company than she did with the pilgrims of her own time.

A direct result of government policy: 1) a disastrous funding system, 2) removal of student recruitment quotas, 3) restricting overseas recruitment. Now, the richest universities are over-recruiting, to the detriment of students & every other university. A problem that’s been known about for years.

Quick observation: minimum $50k for 'Explore' grants is still a problem for HASS, given limits on teaching buyout imposed at both ARC and institution ends. We don't need synchrotrons, we just need time to write!

Just had meeting with kiddo's school. She has been fully supported, treated with full equality & dignity for years. All of that changes from September. Full segregation & humiliation across the board. The school staff cried in the meeting. This will absolutely lead to children's deaths 1/2
