The death penalty is a moral abomination. State-sanctioned barbarism pushed by incompetent morons and sanctioned by the Supreme Court. Absolute ghoul shit. www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news...
The lone woman on Tennessee's death row was still alive after she was administered two lethal injections, her lawyer said in a motion seeking to halt her execution Wednesday night, a stunning development after the Supreme Court had stepped in to allow the state to put her to death.
At 8:26 p.m. local time, witnesses said
"executioners had injected both syringes of lethal injection chemicals and Pike is still alive and snoring," her lawyers said in a federal court filing.
They said Pike "has not lost consciousness and still has a heartbeat," and that curtains to the death chamber "have gone down twice."

I know JD Vance has claimed a monopoly on being the “oracle” of Appalachia. But let me tell you, we have lots of actually-from-Appalachia students at U Cincinnati Law School. And the takeaway *they* got was “do the right thing” and “lift up the people behind you.” Not “don’t be an entitled loser.”

Kvetching about peer review: The business model was always sketchy. For-profit publishers receive free content from academics. This content is peer-reviewed for free by other academics. They sell the product (at v high prices) back to the Universities that pay the academics.

In corporate-law-land, there’s a lot of chatter about the SEC’s proposal to rescind rule 14a-8 - a rule that facilitated shareholder petitions to change company governance This is the latest in a trend to eviscerate shareholder rights. See eg TX’s new corp law, controlling shareholder rights etc

There’s a weird political theology going on with AI The insiders know the business case for their project is iffy at best. Their only hope is to be “saved” via IPO The ideology likewise captures the rapture: just get to AGI and we’ll be saved In the interim we all suffer the apocalyptic horsemen

After WWII, the allies concentrated on the “four Ds” - denazification, democratization, demilitarization, and decartelization. We need to account for the last bit when we make our reconstruction plans. And we need to aim it straight at the broligarchs.

Some important color on the internecine lawprof fight about what it takes to teach law. I see, from time to time, arguments that "academics" make bad law profs because they've never practiced, or haven't practiced enough, and that all it takes to be a lawprof is experience.

The admin wants to stop collecting demographic information (like racial identity) on the census. This must be understood in light of the fact that big tech *does* have access to it. Thus, the social legibility required to govern effectively is taken from public authorities and given to oligarchs.

Trump officials propose sweeping changes to the census that would reshape voting maps
A Trump census proposal would stop asking about race and exclude millions of U.S. residents from a count that the 14th Amendment says must include the "whole number of persons in each state."

Big lawsuit filed by the family of Tierra Walker, who died of preeclampsia at 20 weeks pregnant after being denied abortion care. Argues Texas' abortion bans violate the state constitution's right to life and should be struck down. More soon on @autonomynews.co abortioninamerica.org/wp-content/u...
screenshot from page 60 of the complaint:
Not one of Ms. Walker’s medical providers sought to rely on the exception to Texas’s abortion bans or offered Ms. Walker’s life-saving abortion. To the extent Ms. Walker’s medical providers believed that she was never sick enough to qualify for the exception, Texas’s abortion bans, combined with the associated definitions of “abortion,” “reasonable medical judgment,” and “medical emergency,” are unconstitutionally vague in violation of the due course of law provision of Article I, Section 19 and thus unenforceable. See Paxton v. Annunciation House, Inc., 719 S.W.3d at 589.
208. In addition, to the extent Texas’s abortion bans and associated definitions were a proximate cause of Ms. Walker’s death, they violated her right to life under the Texas Constitution and are unconstitutional. Vernon’s Tex. Civ. Stats. ch. 6-1/2; Tex. Health & Safety Code §§ 170A.001-170A.007; Tex. Health & Safety Code §§ 171.201-171.212; Tex. Health & Safety Code § 245.002.
209. Finally, to the extent Texas’s statutory scheme, taken as a whole, cumulatively denied Ms. Walker her right to life without due process of law, Texas violated her right to life under the Texas Constitution
