Oh what a waste. A small but perfectly formed contra flow cycle lane. Aiming to get people in Sheffield safely and legally to their destination.

Hail Mary post here - but I just lost a nice little pannier bag somewhere in Cat Lane woods and didn't have time to go back for it (plus its like the Blair Witch project in there - I wouldn't even know where I'd been) it's blue and green, Linus brand and had a can of cherry coke in it. #sheffield

If your cycle infrastructure isn't safe enough for everyone, of any age, to feel they can use it, then your cycle infrastructure isn't safe enough.

This question is essentially pointless unless people are also polled on *how* they would like it to work. Would it apply to under 18s? If so would teenagers have to carry ID to show exemption? Would cyclists have to carry proof of license? The whole idea is bonkers, which is why no one does it.

When the Dutch invest in cycling infrastructure, they invest in something that is both functional and beautiful. This contributes to cycling not so much being a functional activity, to get from a to b, but also a recreational and social activity.

Why don’t cyclists use the bike lane that the council spent £3m on? Is it because council operated vehicles are parked in the “bike lane”, on the pavement and on the zigzag endangering pedestrians trying to use the crossing. #30daysofbiking

I know this is well-meaning but it sums up everything wrong with road safety. Someone risk-assessed this and decided a warning sign pushing responsibility to the vulnerable road user was the answer. What about ‘CONSTRUCTION TRAFFIC BEWARE OF CYCLISTS’? (Or better still, safety by design)
Road sign by construction works on Bath Street Shoreditch which reads ‘CYCLISTS - beware of construction traffic’

Here are three takeaways for planners wanting to promote better mental health...🧵

More random things between Utrecht and Gouda. A floating petrol station (one for the SEJ lads), floating traffic calming to avoid a hump, a rural signalised crossroads and crossing a turbo roundabout which is very much discouraged as a design.
A petrol station with a yellow canopy with a red one way cycle track passing to its right.A red cycle lane passes right of a skinny traffic island which is mirrored on the other side of the road with a hump between the skinny islands.A man cycles across the road with a green cycle traffic signal. He is crossing a side road of a signalised T junction with the main road to the left.An uncontrolled crossing over twin traffic lanes to a refuge island and then a crossing of a single traffic lane.
