Mechtober 3: Video Games

I've played all the PC Games, from Crescent Hawk thru MW5, Both Mech Commanders, HBS Battletech, the SNES Mechwarrior game, Sega Genesis Battletech 3050, Mech Assault (still own 2, tho have never played it IIRC), so not 100% exhaustive list, but.. dang close.

Enjoyed almost all for what they were, with the Console Games being the "least".. but still recognize them as legit gateways.

But as the speed sketch might indicate.. IMO, MW4 is far and away still the "best", in regards to ease of controls, replayability, and even the import of the new Mechs that it introduced, which are probably the single most recognizable machines (Uziel, Osiris, Chimera, Hellspawn, Argus, Thanatos, Mad Cat mkII, etc) since TRO 3050 introduced the original 16 omnis way back in 1990.

I know MW2 Mercs has it's ride or die crowd, as does MW3, and in many regards, they did have greater fidelity to the core game (though far from a 1 to 1, contrary to protestations), but going back today, IMO, none fully hold up (though again, I can still enjoy them), but all have things that I miss, whether it was the Underwater Maps in the MW2 Ghost Bear game, or such.

Still and all, I think the reception the release of the various MW4 mechs in plastic really backs up the impact that MW4 Vengeance and Mercs had on the franchise and fanbase.

Third day of BattleTech's #mechtober is video games. I first played #Battletech on sega genesis and was obsessed with its two player mode of one person drives and the other works the torso and shoot. Then came mechwarrior 2, I obsessed over these games and each sequel.

#mechtober day3! Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries was my intro to Battletech and still one of my all-time favorite games. I quickly followed it up with the core game and the other expansions, original MW, and both Crescent Hawk games. Been hooked ever since.

Day 3 of #Mechtober and it's time to talk about video games! Honestly, while the books got me into #BattleTech, video games kept me there. While I haven't always had time, money, or a local group to play on tabletop, I can always fire up my PC and travel to the Inner Sphere. (Check the alt text!)

Ah, the one that started it all. As a young teenage, fresh off Way Of The Clans, being able to fight as a Jade Falcon was too cool. It may have started with the book as I said, but this game is what kept me in.

MechWarrior 5 Clans' expansion Ghost Bear Flash Storm is arguably the MechWarrior series best narrative campaign to date. And I am not just saying that as a die-hard Ghost Bear fan who thinks Elementals are super-awesome and commanding them is the next best thing to an actual Elemental game which they should totally make I have ideas.

...whew. Anyhoo, moving on.

One of my all-time favorites, Harebrained Schemes' excellent BattleTech game. Not only is the campaign itself an outstanding masterpiece, but the core gameplay loop itself is really enjoyable. I can make it as tough or as easy as I like. Because sometimes you want a challenge, and sometimes you just want to flatten half a company with a single artillery shell.

$MechWarrior 5 Mercenaries. Starting you in 3015 and running all the way up to 3060(as of October 6th this year), this allows you to be a part of all of the major events of the Inner Sphere. The 4th Succession War, the Ronin Wars, the War of 3039, the Clan Invasion, the fracture of the Federated Commonwealth, and soon, the reformation of the Star League. There's simply no other BattleTech game that packs in this much history and it just keeps getting better. Hats off to PGI.$

#mechtober continues with the Battletech video games! I did not play much of the Harebrained game but found it’s opening cutscene fascinating & made me wanna learn more about the setting’s timeline. mechtober day 2 gameplay-alpha strike I've not played a lot of A.S. all of my experience with A.S. is aces. I prefer classic , but A.S. is solid. it allows you to play larger battles and is similar to much of the tabletop rulesets out there. solid ruleset that pairs nicely with aces. #Battletech
