The Regent was born from Clan Sea Fox's diplomatic efforts. They worked with Coventry Metal Works to help them realize their plans for reviving their Hauptmann OmniMech with more advanced technology, and linked them with Technicron Manufacturing in the Free Worlds League to accelerate manufacturing. Both CMW and Technicron build the chassis for Clan Sea Fox which then provides the armaments and sells the Regent on the open market.

Clan Wolf requested the Hammerhead 2 from Clan Sea Fox in order to get an even tougher variant of the Hammerhead. Clan Wolf planned to field this Hammerhead variant alongside their Kontios in order to work together in short range firefights. While we wait on the Hammerhead 2 to make its way on to the Master Unit List, we don't have information on exactly which factions have access to the design.

BattleTech's new Core Rulebook introduces the idea of Standard Missions. These are meant to be used for casual games where both players can build a force at the agreed upon Scale, roll on a couple of charts for mission parameters, and get playing. Scale Standard Missions use a Scale rating to determine the BV available to each player. Unlike in Hot Spots, each Scale here is 2,000 BV with no separate BSP allowance.

The Kontio is one of many BattleMechs designed by the WarBear, Ramiel Bekker. Inspired by an ambushing bear, the Kontio is unusual for a Clan design. It makes use of stealth armor to allow for remaining hidden and being a difficult target, and then combines triple-strength myomer and claws to deliver devastating physical attacks. The Rasalhague Dominion was initially unsure about using a 'Mech designed for ambush and physical combat, but Clan Wolf expressed enough interest in the design that Bergan Industries put it into production.

As part of BattleTech's rules updates, it has gotten a new Starter Box. This is the replacement for the Beginner Box and Essentials. Like those, it is designed to offer an inexpensive taste of BattleTech for new players. Disclosure: Catalyst Game Labs provided me with a free copy of the Starter Box. The Starter Box should be available from your local gaming stores now for $30.

BattleTech's new Core Rulebook was available for early purchase at Gen Con, and it should be making its way to retail stores sometime in the next couple of months. It is replacing both Total Warfare and the BattleMech Manual in the product line and is the book that future releases will build on. Alongside the Shiro and the Hitotsume Kozo, the Rokurokubi is one of the stylized samurai 'Mechs that Luthien Armor Works started to produce in the mid-3130s after the Blackout. It is the lightest of the three at only 30 tons, but like the other two it was introduced with hardened armor to make it exceptionally durable for its size. The Draconis Combine and Raven Alliance are the only militaries that currently field the Rokurokubi in significant numbers.

Alongside the rules update for BattleTech that is coming over the next couple of months, the game is getting two new box sets. The Starter Box is taking the place of the Beginner Box, and the Core Box is replacing A Game of Armored Combat. The Clan Invasion box set is also being discontinued. Both of the new boxes will first be available at Gen Con and then are expected to get to retail within a couple of months.

There is a new BattleTech story anthology that has been organized by some of the folks in the Star League discord server. The Chimera was conceived as a fast cavalry BattleMech that would showcase the latest technology that the Inner Sphere had to offer in the early 3060s. It would be able to move fast and hit hard while capable of shrugging off more damage than light scout 'Mechs. Like the earlier Gunslinger, the development of the Chimera was a joint project between the Federated Commonwealth and the Draconis Combine.

With the capture of a large number of Clan OmniMechs during the battles of the early 3050s, the Draconis Combine tasked Luthien Armor Works with reverse engineering the technology of the invaders. The Avatar was one of several Inner Sphere OmniMechs that came out of that effort. It started the design process as modifications to a 60-ton Mad Dog but through several years of iterations and lessons learned from the first few Inner Sphere OmniMechs to reach production, emerged as a 70-ton design.

The third issue of the Pirate Point fanzine for BattleTech was released earlier this week. You can download it for free from itch.io: PIRATE POINT: Issue #3. I made a small contribution to this issue by submitting a picture of the miniatures that I have painted up as pirates. You can see them on page 37.
