Voluntarily severed ex-Professor of Bacteriology dabbling in creative things (music, images, writing [a silly children’s story & a sketchbook about old Lancashire towns]). From Chorley (originally). Might mention The Fall. craigwinstanley.online

#NowPlaying William Shatner by the Bodines. Timing is everything. If they’d started up a few year’s later, I reckon they could have hitched a ride on the Madchester bandwagon & been a lot bigger.

The rush to speculate that asylum seekers are responsible for every crime in the news is a sort of opportunistic informational terrorism. Until it’s disproved it stokes fear and hatred. When it is disproved there are no adverse consequences and they know that they only have to be lucky once.

Voyager 1 view of Jupiter. Banded clouds wrap the planet in beige, cream & pale brown. Just right of center sits the Great Red Spot, an oval storm flushed orange-red. Lower left, the bright disk of Europa is visible. Upper right, a round dark patch marks Io’s shadow on the cloud tops.

England is a made up thing. It has no basis in the ineluctable laws of nature. Its extent is defined by Edward II getting his arse handed to him. Athelstan conquering York. The Welsh of Cumbria were incorporated, the Welsh of Gwynedd were not. It is a political idea, an aspiration - not taxonomy.

Finally, a British conservative who remembers their Defoe
The True Born Englishman, by Daniel Defoe:

"Thus from a mixture of all kinds began,
That het’rogeneous thing, an Englishman:
In eager rapes, and furious lust begot,
Betwixt a painted Britain and a Scot.
Whose gend’ring off-spring quickly learn’d to bow,
And yoke their heifers to the Roman plough:
From whence a mongrel half-bred race there came,
With neither name, nor nation, speech nor fame.
In whose hot veins new mixtures quickly ran,
Infus’d betwixt a Saxon and a Dane.
While their rank daughters, to their parents just,
Receiv’d all nations with promiscuous lust.
This nauseous brood directly did contain
The well-extracted blood of Englishmen."

His main residence is Monaco, so he’s not even one of Britain’s richest people. The BBC (& media generally) is obsessed with the views of filthy rich individuals, especially those who have fled to avoid tax. Another tiresome symptom of the right wing takeover of BBC News.
