At the very least, why don't they make blockbuster movies that are this briskly efficient anymore? In and out in barely 90 mins and never a moment wasted

Mostly a picture of stability this morning on #ALevelResultsDay. A/A* grades continue to creep up again as they have since 2022. Main story, as it increasingly is on results days, is London pulling further ahead of other regions.

Great to see the Guardian champion the SHAPE (Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences) subjects, but this piece gives impression that they are expensive, whereas many are 'cheap to teach' subjects subsidising more expensive subjects, mainly in STEM and medicine. The crisis demands better understanding.

It is hard to express how good a job Gordon/Spence and Konsa/Rogers (and Konsa/Bellingham) did to defend every wide 2v2 there. Every single cross was so deep, heavily contested, and always an extra pass or two to work the space to get it off at all.

I can't believe I have to say this but the point is not "corrupt World Cups are not new". It's that this specific World Cup has been a succession of "f**k yous" to various parts of the global football community, and this is the latest one. And I doubt it will be the last.

A bit like South Africa, Paraguay came with a defensive gameplan that fell apart within 10 mins. Imagine they'll look different in the next two games as they can't afford another loss - the good news for them is they probably can't play worse!

I was baffled that they didn't use the time after the SK equaliser last night for the second half hydration break. Instead they kicked off and then had a big pause within just a minute or two

Since 2011, Elon Musk has been promising to put a man on Mars within a few years. He failed. SpaceX burned through billions of dollars of venture capital. It still isn't profitable and Mars is now further away than it was in 2011. If you're buying the $SPCX IPO, you're the exit liquidity.

10/ Finally, there will be a first-time finalist at the tournament. But I don't think they'll win it. England aren't there, I just can't see how we cope with the altitude of Mexico City followed by the heat of Miami and have enough in the tank to make it all the way

9/ Spain suffer a shock exit after a perfect group stage. Maybe it's wishful thinking but an extra knockout round means a greater chance of a surprise and I think one of Algeria or Croatia might surprise them

8/ As in 2018, there will be a perceived easy side of the draw - and England will be on the wrong side of it

Craig O'Callaghan @craigoc.bsky.social · 11/06/2026
7/ Scotland will be left sweating until the last day of matches to confirm their third place was sufficient to go through
100
Craig O'Callaghan @craigoc.bsky.social · 11/06/2026
6/ The third-placed race will be chaotic and a team will end up missing out on disciplinary record having been tied on goal difference and goals scored

Craig O'Callaghan @craigoc.bsky.social · 11/06/2026
5/ Argentina can take a while to get going and I think Algeria will be awkward first opponents. Messi and co should still top the group but it will be hard work

4/ Incredibly, Deschamps' France have never won their third group match at a World Cup or Euros. That's good news for Norway and I could see that group ending in a three-way on 6 points

Craig O'Callaghan @craigoc.bsky.social · 11/06/2026
3/ At least one of the debutants will make the knockouts and I reckon it could be Cape Verde. Bielsa-ball can't cope with two group matches in the Miami heat

Craig O'Callaghan @craigoc.bsky.social · 11/06/2026
2/ Japan stun the Netherlands, struggle against Tunisia but just about top the group and go deep into the knockouts

When I was 13, I spent a long coach journey reading a EURO 2004 preview magazine and naively came away convinced Greece could win the whole thing given how solid their defence was. It's the only time I've ever been right about something. Given that, here are my boldest World Cup 2026 predictions:

If you lose a job because the team is full of superstar egos who won't do what you want them to, I can see the appeal of a club full of young impressionable stars. Unfortunately for him, there's still no shortage of egos though

I am extremely confused as to why the UK government and police are saying Grok’s mass-scale CSAM generation is an issue for Ofcom. This isn’t about X failing to moderate CSAM, which is an Online Safety Act issue. It is about the company and its technology being actively involved in its generation.
