－Recently, the game has been going viral on X for its beautiful undressing animations. I’ve even read in one of your previous interviews that the development team practiced stripping themselves as reference for the undressing animations. What was the process behind making the animations actually like?

Matsui:

I’d love to know how far that story has spread. It’s true.

First, we write a plot for each undressing scene, then draw storyboards, exactly as the original team did. Then the real work begins, because the animation is essentially all keyed by hand. A designer moves the clothing’s 3D model, frame by frame, manually. It really is pretty much like the claymation method I mentioned.

We did try automating it with physics simulation first, but it was a total failure. The cloth moved in a physically correct way, but had absolutely no allure. We learned a profound lesson: accuracy and sensuality are two unrelated properties. In the end, we accepted that humans would have to do all of it.

Then VR adds its own weight. In a normal game, if something becomes awkward, you can cut away or swap models between scenes. In VR, the player can look from any angle at any time, so none of those tricks are available. The same model has to undress convincingly no matter where you’re standing. When I described this to a designer at another studio, he said, “I would never do that.” I’ve chosen to take it as a compliment.

And then, yes, the part you’ve read about. The undressing motions themselves use motion capture, but the deeper problem was that nobody actually knew the correct rhythm and order in which a person takes off clothes. So, the directors gathered and undressed themselves as reference. “That zipper is coming down too fast.” “She’d pause once before slipping her shoulder out.” These were serious, sober discussions. For compliance reasons, the Super Real Mahjong Venus Returns team works in a walled-off section of our office – and that was the moment those walls truly earned their keep.

or just... WRITE, the damn STORY. IT'S FANFIC.

Ask the AI about creating a writing style guide and have it help you make one, making decisions about things you like and don't like. Give it writing samples you really like, and ask it to point out style choices and things that you might want to incorporate. Make decisions on what you like, then ask it to update the style doc often as you make new decisions.

Ask it about creating a character guide or character bible. This will track info about your characters, their emotional motivations, their communication styles, etc. If it's an existing fandom, you can have the AI try to look up info online about the characters and it will give you a head start. Ask it to update this document every so often with anything new you have established or learned.

Before you have it draft, or before you start discussing the scene, have it refresh its memory from the style guide and character guide. AI has a limited memory, so you want to make sure it's working with good information and not guessing.

Then, for drafting scenes or chapters, you can't just expect to give it ONE prompt and have a miracle. Give it an outline of how you want the scene to go, tell it not to draft yet, you're discussing it first. Give some sample...

How do you make AI write fan fictions that are actually good?

Basically what the title says. Im a beginner who just started using AI to write stories, and i came to realize that the overall experience has been somewhat lacking. I found that most AI models are actually pretty good at generating plots, sometimes the plots they offer are really promising, you could see the potential radiating. But once it comes to turning plots into stories, problems start to occur. No matter how good the plot is, once it turns into a whole story, there’s always something missing. It constantly reminds you while reading that this is not written by human. It’s really frustrating, like it could have a whole paragraph that’s good, but when it comes towards a emotional climax, there’s no climax, only a watered down version of what good authors would have done. And sometimes they weave in new elements not even mentioned in the plot, and make it seem very important. Like they want ordinary scenes like characters holding hands to be so important, while dealing the actual climax listed in the plot so badly. I have tried a few different models, but the problems seems to be universal. I wonder if there’s some techniques that I have not learned. If you have faced similar issues, please tell me how you solved them. Thank you.
