Andy Weir I have two follow-up questions, 1, are you aware of Bloody Mary, and 2.... really, dawg?

snip from the article:

You wrote a fanfic for Ernest Cline’s Ready Player One — and then that became canon. How did that happen?

Well, the dream of every fan fiction writer, deep down, is to have the original author canonize your fiction, and that's what happened to me. I can die now. I was a huge fan of Ready Player One. I had never spoken to Ernie yet at that point. I just really enjoyed the book, and right after finishing the book, I wrote a little fanfic called “Lassero” and posted it on my site. Eventually it got around to Ernie, and he's like, “I love it. This is canon.”

My favorite character in the Odyssey is the guy who tripped and fell off a roof during Circe's party and fucking died, and everyone forgot to check on him until they find him in Hades after the fact. oopsie what a way to go

Elpenor, how did you come here, in darkness?
You came on foot more quickly than I sailed:
He groaned in answer, 'Lord Odysseus,
you master every circumstance. But I
had bad luck from some god, and too much wine
befuddled me. In Circe's house I lay
upstairs, and I forgot to use the ladder
to climb down from the roof. I fell headfirst;
my neck was broken from my spine. My spirit
came down to Hades. By the men you left,
the absent ones! And by your wife! And father,
who brought you up from babyhood! And by
your son, Telemachus, whom you abandoned
alone at home, I beg you! When you sail
from Hades and you dock your ship again
at Aeaea, please, my lord, remember me.
Do not go on and leave me there unburied,
abandoned, without tears or lamentation-
or you will make the gods enraged at you.
Burn me with all my arms, and heap a mound
beside the gray salt sea, so in the future
people will know of me and my misfortune.

Found a weird Location today

A wooden arch in a hedge. It says, atop this - gateway to oblivion

The path through the gate. Trees. Some standing stones. Overcast sky

An entrance to a hedge maze under a cloudy sky

I'm in a hedge maze now. The hedges are on all sides. A path turns to the left

or just... WRITE, the damn STORY. IT'S FANFIC.

Ask the AI about creating a writing style guide and have it help you make one, making decisions about things you like and don't like. Give it writing samples you really like, and ask it to point out style choices and things that you might want to incorporate. Make decisions on what you like, then ask it to update the style doc often as you make new decisions.

Ask it about creating a character guide or character bible. This will track info about your characters, their emotional motivations, their communication styles, etc. If it's an existing fandom, you can have the AI try to look up info online about the characters and it will give you a head start. Ask it to update this document every so often with anything new you have established or learned.

Before you have it draft, or before you start discussing the scene, have it refresh its memory from the style guide and character guide. AI has a limited memory, so you want to make sure it's working with good information and not guessing.

Then, for drafting scenes or chapters, you can't just expect to give it ONE prompt and have a miracle. Give it an outline of how you want the scene to go, tell it not to draft yet, you're discussing it first. Give some sample...

this post goes on and on and on after this but is cropped here.

sorry, I think I've gotten addicted to reading the "writing with AI" subreddit. Just for the schadenfreude of it. I can't stop

How do you make AI write fan fictions that are actually good?
Discussion (Ethics, working with AI etc)
Basically what the title says. Im a beginner who just started using AI to write stories, and i came to realize that the overall experience has been somewhat lacking. I found that most AI models are actually pretty good at generating plots, sometimes the plots they offer are really promising, you could see the potential radiating. But once it comes to turning plots into stories, problems start to occur. No matter how good the plot is, once it turns into a whole story, there’s always something missing. It constantly reminds you while reading that this is not written by human. It’s really frustrating, like it could have a whole paragraph that’s good, but when it comes towards a emotional climax, there’s no climax, only a watered down version of what good authors would have done. And sometimes they weave in new elements not even mentioned in the plot, and make it seem very important. Like they want ordinary scenes like characters holding hands to be so important, while dealing the actual climax listed in the plot so badly. I have tried a few different models, but the problems seems to be universal. I wonder if there’s some techniques that I have not learned. If you have faced similar issues, please tell me how you solved them. Thank you.

*coughs a whole bunch upon reading this comment for no clear reason*

counterexample of "sexy equality": two equal opponents fighting, neither is too strong to crush the other quickly, they go at it long enough to get tired and desperate. but maybe this doesn't count either because one of them will win and the other lose and that is pretty unequal always

I'm in favor of adults doing whatever sex act they want to do with proper safety and consent and I am fully on board with BDSM as a culture! It's deeply weird tho for Yud to drop this paragraph in the middle of his philosophical post about a More Rational Planet

btw, 'electric self-driving cars in tunnels underground' is also a Yud post. This went up in 2014 and construction on the 'Vegas Loop' started in 2019 Elon Musk started his digging underground shit in 2017 so the timeline adds up, and every line in this post is stupid

Every time I see someone describe themselves as an "aspiring ____" I die a little inside. I made a little flow chart to illustrate my opinion on this matter

simple chart. it says at the top, are you doing the thing? options are yes or no. if no: why not then?? if yes, "then you're not aspiring you're the thing." this is followed up by "but it's not up to the standards of..." "almost everyone hates their own output but you're still doing the thing!!"

This is from the Onion print edition and says as a headline:
Olivia Rodrigo releases Fantasy Tabletop Game 'The High Winter Elves of Girlville'

There is a portion of an article (which indicates that this is a boxed set TTRPG that retails for $79.99) and also a picture of her (photoshopped) holding up a pink Tabletop box set that has a pink colored forest and magic elves with a sword and bow on the cover. It says "The High Winter Elves of Girlville". She's a brunette who is proud and smiling. I covet the item.

good news everyone Soon we'll all be able to fuck Megatron icv2.com/articles/new...

an article excerpt:
"The AI behavior models for characters will be built based on authorized source material and human voice performances; Hasbro has a compensation structure in place for participating human talent. When the studio launches, 12 Hasbro characters will be available for Behavioral Licensing. These characters include Optimus Prime, Megatron, Cobra Commander, Mr. Potato Head, and the cast of Clue.

“CharacterOS is compelling because it unlocks a bigger creative canvas while addressing a real challenge in AI: the unauthorized use of content," said Chris Cocks, CEO of Hasbro. " It gives brands a trusted way to bring characters into new AI-enabled platforms without losing what makes them authentic.”"
