Don’t get me wrong: even if Sutcliffe actually had pursued this plan it’s terrible. But he can’t even be bothered to run this city beyond pandering to burbs with artificially low taxes which, because they’re below inflation, are de facto service cuts.

one of the ways the media shows which side they prefer, is which politicians they quote uncharitably out-of-context and which they clean up for even when what they actually say and do is offensive (the Biden story ran on the front page less than a week before the 24 election)

The city is so short sighted in this regard. Every pole has a 2m development setback. Every wire is 5m. So leaving the wires above grade has a detrimental impact on future development area (and development charges and property taxes).

1) This is just gutter racism 2) A failed claimant ≠ "bogus." Many will get approved on appeal. 3) If the Conservatives are so concerned about the state of healthcare, they should talk to their fucking premiers, not punch down on refugee claimants.
Liberals Restart Full Luxury Benefits For Bogus Asylum Claimants
August 7, 2026
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Ottawa, ON – The Hon. Michelle Rempel Garner, Conservative Shadow Minister for Immigration, released the following statement in response to reports of the latest Liberal immigration reversal:
“Before Parliament rose for the summer, the Liberals were forced to admit that their approach to the Interim Federal Health Program (IFHP) was not in line with the interests of Canadians.
“The IFHP provides free healthcare coverage to asylum seekers, including those appealing failed applications. That extends to things not covered for most Canadians, like drug prescriptions, eye care, physiotherapy, home care and speech therapy.
“After insisting for months nothing was wrong, the government refused to withdraw these benefits, and instead told Canadians it would make coverage conditional on a copay. They have now changed direction again by withdrawing the copay requirement.
“Conservatives found that many bogus asylum claimants have access to this program, bolstering the costs to Canadians by over $1 billion per year according to the Parliamentary Budget Officer.
“This is a pattern for this Liberal government: promising Canadians they will get a handle on an issue, and then doing nothing or quietly rolling back changes when they believe nobody is looking. Whether in trade negotiations or immigration, this approach only creates confusion, mistrust and instability.
“Canada’s seniors are again going to pay for coverage for those who have not paid into the system, and they will be competing for spaces in nursing homes that already are overburdened. Introducing additional international competition in elder care is unfair and must be stopped.
“More than 100,000 Canadians have died waiting for care since 2018. Six million Canadians, 1 in 5, lack access to a family doctor. Wait times to see a specialist are over 28 weeks (seven months). Each of these visits put on the system via the IH…

It is unfortunate that even though the city staff running the study for Bank Street Bus Lanes agrees with us that bus lanes should be in effect longer, on weekends, should operate in both directions, and that they should be running on events is being stifled by a small minority of very loud voices.
Section of the city staff report for Bus Lanes on Bank Street that says "Ultimately, bus lane hours extending beyond these peak periods, and in the off-peak direction, are recommended, including during a greater number of Lansdowne events and on weekends."
