Well, yeah I think being expected to submit clear, detailed, step-by-step work is quite annoying to some students... and to some faculty! But I'll agree with your implication that it's v. important that the standard, whatever it is, is *consistent.*

First assignment thoughts: - No. 1's "a clear, linear progression" to work is a standard that needs lots of clarity - No. 2's expectation to annotate with explanations is probably something new: how can you do something if you've never learned *how* to do it the right way?
