Shipping’s Net-Zero Framework Sails On, Despite Headwinds from Detractors
The Clean Shipping Coalition welcomed broad support by member states for the Net-Zero Framework (NZF) - the UN shipping body’s long negotiated compromise climate agreement, but criticised attempts by a minority of states to undermine it with ‘alternative proposals’ and called for its adoption at December’s Marine Environment Protect Committee.

Delaine McCullough, Shipping Program Director @oceanconservancy.org, highlighted that shipping is the backbone of the global economy. Estimates of shipping trade’s market top $14 trillion, but it’s also a major source of climate pollution, ocean & global warming. www.seanews.co.uk/environment/...

Net-Zero Framework is Best Tool to Meet IMO’s GHG Strategy Goals
The Net-Zero Framework also introduces a mechanism that puts a price on a portion of GHG ships emit, giving the industry a clear financial incentive.

Also worth noting a submission by China 🇨🇳 – which kept fairly quiet last year during US/Saudi opposition to the framework. The submission signals that China is broadly supportive of the net-zero framework and engages specifically on the topic of how to use resources from the new IMO fund.
