Phasing out the aviation sector's access to stationary emissions allowances under the EU ETS would drive down aviation emissions whilst easing the demand on other sectors. 🎥 In this video, we use our EU #ETS simulator to show how changing surrendering rules would remove the burden on other sectors.

Even though airlines pay for their emissions, the sector has continuously exceeded its carbon budget. For aviation, purchasing allowances is cheaper than reducing emissions, and airlines can recover these costs by charging consumers, so their profit is preserved. For more: sandbag.be/2026/09/02/p...

For the first time ever, both imports and goods made in the EU face carbon costs. Our video shows how the EU ETS, together with the CBAM, is not the financial burden it is oftentimes made out to be. In fact, the two mechanisms create extra revenues which can even lead to net profits.

Yesterday, the European Parliament voted to remove Art. 27a from the CBAM! This comes after our advocacy for the deletion of Art. 27a and our analysis on the CBAM and the drivers of fertiliser price increases was circulated extensively and quoted by MEP Mohammed Chahim, whose amendment was passed.
