In Texas, Something Seismic Is Happening—and It’s All Trump’s Fault

I really think Jon Ossoff, James Talarico, and a few others are in the process of creating a new kind of language, a new politics, for the era of Late Stage Trumpism. As I argue in the piece, the banal cruelties of sunsetting Trumpism are all around us, and some Dems are pointing to a way out.

The faith of Jerusalem was not Christian. The philosophy of Athens was Men First for everything, like, super, extra Gay. Queer all the way. The power of Rome came from accepting people and avoiding fights. The freedom of 1776 was to fight the oppressor and rebel against kings.

Laugh at Eric Schmitt and Co. for Hawkeyes/Hawks, sure. Their screw up is funny and they deserve the mockery. But also, this was the GOP and allied media geared up to defend a coup attempt with lies and jail a prosecutor because he tried to enforce the law against a criminal. How far we've fallen.

Huh. I have had exactly the opposite experience. Marriott once left my wife stranded in Huntsville with no room despite her having a confirmed reservation, and complaints to corporate were met with silence despite our elevated Bonvoy status. We subsequently switched most of our business to Hilton.

Not a great sign when your 12-person private fundraiser includes someone who hates you enough to leak damaging audio
The audio of Mr. Paxton was shared with The Times by an attendee who recorded him speaking at a private fund-raiser in Washington attended by roughly a dozen people. The person, who opposes Mr. Paxton’s campaign and provided the recording to The Times, was granted anonymity because Mr. Paxton’s remarks were private.

This is an underrated point, I think. It’s been asymmetrically distributed across the federal workforce but places like the FBI, they’ve fired people simply for doing the jobs assigned to them, when they happen to be redressing Republican wrongdoing. One of the most corrosive things of all this.

Something remarkable is happening: James Talarico is running an expansively pro-immigrant campaign in Texas, a state Trump won by 14 points, speaking in Biblical terms about our duty to "the stranger." And it's resonating. That's seismic. 1/ (new piece) newrepublic.com/article/2160...

I am interested to hear the hon. Gentleman using the figure of £70 billion, and I agree with him. He knows that £30 billion of that results from the rise in the triple lock, so does he agree that the triple lock is simply not affordable?
