Hi! In all honestly, I don't think we can really reconcile the present context of AI while dismissing how pivotal of a role the US military has in it's conception, funding, and development as a tool to more effectively kill people.

I've heard people make claims that AI would lead to a new Renaissance, but I didn't imagine it'd happen like this:
Screenshot of a Tweet from Pope Leo XIV. It reads:

"In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgen to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity."

It is not permitted to request jury nullification during a trial but it is permissible to discuss it abstractly. Jury nullification is the synthesis of two rules. First, the prosecution cannot appeal a jury verdict of not guilty. Second, a jury issuing a verdict of not guilty need not explain itself

There are NOT machine-made clothes. If there were, your clothes would be made in the country you live in (where the customers are), or in China (where machines are cheap). They’re made in Bangladesh or India or Indonesia because that’s where the LABOUR is cheap. Your clothes are made by people.
Joyce Carol Oates says: “This is why Al-generated romance novels make perfect sense. Formulaic fiction doesn't need to be written by hand, so to speak; what difference does it make if a machine "writes" it? There are machine-made clothes & there are custom-made clothes. They appeal to
different consumers.“

"Anthropic leaders to control AI lab via 'Founder LLC' to promote the common good" www.reuters.com/legal/transa.... If only Elinor Ostrom was still around to explain to these AI doomer numpties that 'common good' is something we decide _in common_, not via a cabal.
screenshot from linked Reuters piece which reads: "Sept 28 (Reuters) - Anthropic has long positioned itself as the virtuous AI company. An early look at its IPO filing shows how it is creating a new "Founder LLC" vehicle aimed at serving the common good, while insulating its leaders from market forces.
The new LLC will be made up initially of Anthropic's seven co-founders including CEO Dario ‌Amodei, individuals who are "distinctly equipped to be stewards of our mission," according to a copy of the filing, seen by Reuters. Anthropic's mission is to benefit humanity through responsible AI."

Schools are experimenting with AI with little evidence or policy to guide them
Teachers are using AI to develop lesson plans, and in some districts, AI chatbots give students feedback on their work. Meanwhile, the research around how AI can help students is extremely limited.

Worth noting that the Title IX rules that were rescinded didn't include protections for trans student athletes, because Biden withdrew that part on his way out of office. That didn't stop McMahon from framing it that way though.
The Biden administration on Dec. 20 withdrew a proposed rule that would have extended Title IX protections to transgender student athletes, acknowledging that public sentiment and legal challenges made finalizing the rule too difficult.“It’s exactly how we enforce Title IX,” McMahon said in a video released over the weekend. “It was boys in boys sports and girls in girls sports, and now the Biden rules and regulations are being rescinded and it is a full return to the Trump administration’s Title IX ruling, as has been upheld by many courts.”
