Writers, if you are against AI, do not put your writing into ANY tool that is itself AI. Not to check grammar, not to "prove" you wrote it yourself. Everything you give them becomes part of their data, even if it's only to "improve their service" or whatever BS they tell you.

I already have some slides I prepared for teaching this to both 1st year undergrads (intro to CS) and 2nd year master’s students (as “the” exemple of conventional computing before going unconventional 😊).

My university is the first organisation in the world to force Microsoft to allow us to turn off copilot summaries in Word 365, after a backlash against it from staff (including, very vocally, me). That cannot have been easy for our heroic IT people so hats very much off to them!

For instance, one of my not-so-pet peeves about CS education is the way Turing machines are almost aways introduced, as a such-and-such n-tuple of blah blah, without any historical context, intuition, or mention of the fact that this thing is actually meant to formalise pen & paper computation.
