my favorite fact about the formation of the FDA was that it was largely in response to one quack who endorsed surgically grafting goat balls into your body as a panacea, and then spread out into a variety of branded snake oils and other quackery which sold like wildfire because he had a radio show

This Hour Has 22 Minutes has been on fire too, but that’s not surprising considering the state of things in Canada. I would simply not mess with a country whose #1 export is sketch comedy.

One of the sad truths when you have seen the same behind the scenes pics of Star Trek your entire life over and over is that now if I see one I have never seen I can no longer feel excitement about it because there's a 90% chance it's AI generated.

Legitimately I find Strange New Worlds to be really difficult to square with The Original Series in terms of continuity, and not in terms of visuals but in terms of characters and storytelling. But I didn't mind that as much in earlier seasons when I was enjoying the show! The worse the show gets...

There is IMO something absolutely spot on about the British ruling class not at all recognising that smashing up the state to sell it for scrap and cocaine might be a problem, until it started to somewhat impede their ability to wage a really serious war.
I've spent a few weeks asking people if Britain is prepared for war, among other doom scenarios. The short answer is no and the condensed reason for why that happened is that we spent the last forty years stripping off and selling the most resilient systems in the country for parts.

One of the worst things about streaming with ads is no humans appear to be in charge of placing the ad breaks. Even shows which originally had ad breaks, where there was an obvious break in the narrative for it, don't have the ad breaks put in those places now

here's the thing: it doesn't matter if you're personally attracted to any given character. the point is, can you imagine what it's LIKE to be. and, yes. without any particular effort, I can do that. I'm not attracted to cis men but I TOTALLY get why other people are haha

Tonight, from the new 4k from Arrow. It's gorrrrrrgeous.
Forbidden Planet is a 1956 American science fiction film from Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, produced by Nicholas Nayfack and directed by Fred M. Wilcox from a script by Cyril Hume that was based on a film story by Allen Adler and Irving Block. It stars Walter Pidgeon, Anne Francis, and Leslie Nielsen. Shot in Eastmancolor and CinemaScope, this landmark film is considered one of the great science-fiction films of the 1950s,[4] a precursor of contemporary science-fiction cinema. The characters and isolated setting have been compared to those in William Shakespeare's The Tempest, and the plot contains certain happenings analogous to the play, leading many to consider it a loose adaptation

I think the only rational explanation - I'm not saying it's non-evil, I'm saying it's rational - is that the market for fossil fuel collapsed, and data centers are just a whole new way to burn fossil fuel. It makes far more sense that 'it's where they keep the magic computer superbrains'.

Even when I wrote something that (to me) was pretty straightforward, readers were saying that they weren’t able to follow the plot. The lesson here is to be vague and odd and obscure as you want because even when you think you’ve made things clear, it won’t be.

The new Ghost in the Shell anime finished yesterday, and I absolutely loved the whole series, barring like one minor complaint. I know a lot of people were taken off guard by it, since it was a manga accurate adaptation and that made it very different from SAC or the Oshii movies, but I loved it!
