OK, this is wild. In September 2023, geophysicists across the world started monitoring a very odd signal coming from the ground under them. It was picked up in the Arctic. And Antarctica. It was detected everywhere, every 90 seconds, as regular as a metronome, for *nine days*. What the HELL? 1/

One of the things I know about writing is this: spend it all, shoot it, play it, lose it, all, right away, every time. Do not hoard what seems good for a later place in the book or for another book; give it, give it all, give it now. The impulse to save something good for a better place later is the signal to spend it now. Something more will arise for later, something better. These things fill from behind, from beneath, like well water. Similarly, the impulse to keep to yourself what you have learned is not only shameful, it is destructive. Anything you do not give freely and abundantly becomes lost to you. You open your safe and find ashes.

Actually, one more - I feel like I should say this directly, so here goes. In the 90s and 00s, the groups I remember pursuing this strategy (hyperpublicize mugshots, Black crime statistics, etc) were Stormfront, the Klan, etc. Now it's the New York Times and the Telegraph. That is the story here.

I've watched the right use this communication strategy (and close cousins of it) my entire life - and of course, it is much older. quick examples: "solar panels fail at night", "not all men" etc. In each case a true statement is made, yet each is a case of the bad kind of propaganda. 2/

Hey everyone.

Last night, to my great surprise, I received a long email from Saber Interactive CEO Matt Karch. He apologized unreservedly for the awful way he spoke about me in the press. The email’s full text will stay between us; I’m not that kind of girl. But I have confirmed it was from him.

Matt said he regretted escalating, and how people online were speaking about me. I’m not worried about being called slurs by random commenters—I’m a trans woman, that’s every day for me—but it stunk to have my skill and reputation built of 20 years in games publicly maligned by someone with institutional power. One thing I saw people saying about me, and that Matt fueled the flames of too, was that this is not my first time calling a former employer out, so I must love drama or be hard to work with. The truth is, bad treatment is everywhere in games; I’m just more willing than others to call it out. And I call it out so maybe others will be willing, too, when it happens to them.

I’ve been firm from the beginning that I was telling the truth; I think we can all now agree that’s been borne out. Matt expressed a desire to make it right with me; at this time I don’t really know what that looks like for me, and I’ll have to take some time to sit with it, but I do at least accept his apology. None of this changes my stance on AI. Matt and I obviously differ on this, and as a CEO the consequences of its use fall on him, and unfortunately also on his employees.

Apologies are simply in too short a supply these days to spurn one when it’s offered.

God willing, this is the last statement I’ll need to make about this.

xo

Spot the difference. We didn't 5x the Cycleways network in London overnight. It took vision, hard work, & the conviction to invest in green infrastructure - often in the face of vocal opposition. In 2016, we had 90km of Cycleways. Now we're at 450km. That's progress. And we're not stopping there.
Graphic with the headline, “London’s cycle network is now five times larger than in 2016.” The upper map is labelled “BEFORE 2016” and shows London with a small number of bright green cycle routes concentrated around central London. The lower map is labelled “AFTER 2026” and shows London with many more bright green cycle routes extending across central and outer London.
