I was a child in the 1950s in an industrial northwest city when the Clean Air Act got going. What a difference! Coal fire chimneys ceased to beach black smoke. Bronchial problems massively reduced. Well done London with ULEZ.

Not everything is about the ultra wealthy. Ordinary people drive cars too. Personally I see it more as vision and commitment even in the face of unpopular decisions can provide dividends (not always but it can do)

I am encouraged that my work in Bradford is being upheld by local people around their CAZ. I am no longer invokved, but the new Reform administration there have found the Farage narratove deeply unpopular. The studies prove the massive health impact, and people notice less pollution.

I know we are supposed to "think of the chillerns" and all that, but, as an adult, I quite like to not have my lungs filled with rubbish too... ULEZ benefits everyone (even drivers, though they refuse to see it)

I'm not surprised at all at these effects of Ulez; I used to live in heavy traffic areas (that weren't Ulez areas) and just the shift from car drivers moving to electric/hybrid vehicles alone made such a difference to local air quality.

Interesting that this hit the news today, just as Restore Britain announced Howard Cox as its transport spokesperson. Cox was a prominent opponent of ULEZ when he stood as Reform UK’s candidate for Mayor of London.

There is a common misconception that everybody loves their children. Life has taught me otherwise. Many from right across society go unloved as children. Expecting these sort of people to care for other people’s children is expecting too much.

London is now an infinitely more pleasant place to be. You don’t feel ill every day you are there any more. Some people will cling to any tradition out of fear of change- even lung disease, stingy eyes and the constant roar of traffic.

Tbh I don’t find this surprising. Back in the 1990’s a study carried out in East Greenwich found a clear link between traffic pollution from slow moving cars on Trafalgar Road & Blackwall lane and the high incidence of asthma in children living in the area.

It is and you are💯 correct. But the air is still not clean. It contains micro plastic, feces, and toxic chemicals dumped by the private companies in our waterways which pollutes the air. ULEZ was great in reducing carbon emission including monoxide. But we need to Nationalise water for clean air.
